Got the sam's mother board cpu combo for $269 some 6 ago with 16gb ddr5 for $59. So this is not exactly a deal in my opinion at this price.
apples to oranges.

Yeah I checked seems it really is a hassle to transfer OEM licenses says it requires a call to MS. F that. I found a windows 10 pro for $29 so cheap enough to just buy a new license.

Can you recommend a case/power supply for this? Looking at all the extras that are needed is this really worth buying piecemeal? We can transfer over the drive and the video card. Not sure the memory is compatible but I guess you don't need more than 32GB? I assume the old Dell (what will be left) is near worthless?
here is W11 pro for $10.

yes you are much better off buying parts piecemeal just need to shop around for the best deals. You may be able to find a cheap compact ATX case for $50 ish and a decent gold rated 650W psu for about $100 or less.

He brings his system between houses can you suggest a portable case for him? If it had a handle or something like that. He just brings the CPU everything else is duplicated between houses.

No it wouldnt. This is faster than 7900x, with a better motherboard, on a more stable platform, for the same price as the 7900x combo at MC. Not to mention AMD has some added controversy of Zen 4 (Ryzen 7000) CPUs prematurely dying.

In my experience, those cheap keys from various websites often require calling in to activate because the normal authentication does not work initially. It's been a couple years since I've done it and never had an issue after calling. It just takes a couple minutes on their automated phone system and may be the same process as it takes for OEM transfer.

For multithreaded heavy lifting (e.g., actual creative work), AMD is still the clear winner for anybody who's smart about this stuff. Intel is popular with the single-core gamer kidz with gun fantasies.
With all that heavy multi-threaded production you do I'm surprised you even have time for slickdeals.

Besides folks like you who live by brand loyalty and orthodoxy instead, SD is actually a valuable indie forum for technology advice by people beholden to nothing but their own (not another's) financial interests to save money and swim past corporate B.S.
I live by brand loyalty? Wtf are you talking about?

intel lost the gaming crown but currently has the perf/value and multi thread crown. AMD is in a weird spot except for their x3d chips which have their own niche. longevity still goes to AMD given their platform although value goes back to intel. Its all intertwined really and heavily depends on current promos/discounts and what features you value the most as there is no longer a clear cut winner.
