i don't have this model, but the ones i have got from the store have really bad write speeds(3.1). They are fast to read though.
Bought these awhile back to use as boot/install drives. For that, they work just fine. Capacity checks out. Read speeds are excellent >100MB/s, write speeds are ~10-15MB/s sequential. Would not recommend these if you were writing a lot of data to them or to use as a primary drive. Good for lending out and never getting them back.
The individual price is normally $4.99 [microcenter.com] so this does reflect a discount on the in-store price... until you consider that Micro Center has consistently sold a comparable Kingston model at $3.99 [microcenter.com] and has a two-pack instore at $7.49 [microcenter.com].

I do have this exact drive as a handy option for Windows installations.

Good luck!
Jon

Got mine today... and I am getting really slow write speeds. Tried copying a 3.8 GB file and got less than 5 MB/s.

Anyone else? Shouldn't it be at least around 10 MB/s? Maybe they changed/cheapened these and they got even worse?

I'm returning these. I tried to write a 3.8 GB file to all 5 of them. Two of the drives croaked and had various problems and errors. The other 3 seemed to have worked but writing was slow. If they were just slow then I would keep them but with 2 failing to write a large file, these are going back. Wasted my time and cost me way more than I would have saved if these worked.

seems like these are too slow for some of that.
You would be wrong. Many of us use them as OS installers because the read speeds are fine, they are reliable (enough), and they are either completely free (with coupon) or just a few bucks at Micro Center, which we're already at to buy things for clients.
Anything that requires reasonably fast read speeds but not fast write speeds is a good match for these drives. Those things include..... Music playback, video playback, OS installs.

I would get the 32GB or 128GB ones then. I have a ton of both of those and write OS images to them all the time. They write slow (but not horribly so) and reads are quick enough and always reliable.
Some have mentioned issues with the 64GB in particular. I probably only have 4 of those in my bag and have never had a problem but that's 4 out of a bajillion so YMMV.

These microcenter usb drives are handy for boot drives but have terrible write speed.

You are not wrong. But they're often free with a coupon or less than a cup of coffee at regular price so as long as you know what you're getting, it's a reasonable deal.

Anyone else get these drives and test them by simply writing a 1+ GB file to them to see if they work? I had a 40% failure rate.
