Be aware that the latest batch of the 128GB models offered up at MC stores have different internal components rendering them painfully slow in the write department. See the "Newest" reviews on the Micro Center product page for further details.

I recall getting one about 3 years ago and it is terrible. It'll write until the buffer fills then pause for 5 seconds while it flushes it to flash. I would not ever buy one of these.

Of course if things changed maybe but not unless I hear these are now better.

ordered for my business! thanks! we use these to have bootable copies of various OSes to run on the fly. I won't lie though they die after about 6 months of heavy usage.

Have you heard of 'Ventoy"? Google it and thank me later.

I didn't quite read enough yet but.... Soooo you can create multiple bootable OSs on one USB that's not a partition ? That sounds very useful 😲😲😲😲 If that's not correct I'll just stick with Rufus

Yeah, don't expect to write more than 10 MB/s.

I just try ventoy the other day. Pretty handy but it won't work if you have secured boot enabled on your motherboard. I need to disable secured boot for it to work.

I've used a number of these over the years and while I absolutely LOVE the form factor, their write performance is just abysmal, especially small random writes. The ones I've used can do anywhere from 10-40MB/s sequential writes but only 4-10KB/s small random writes. That's Kilobytes per second, not Megabytes per second. They're fine for running Live operating systems (which are mostly read-only) and installers but I'd suggest something else for moving files around. It's a shame because I've never found another flash drive with such a perfect physical form factor.

My 128 gb from Microcenter had 32 gb internal component. I only realized it after 6 months purchasing it. 😔

This guy says the Samsung BAR Plus USB 3.1 is really good and fast: https://youtu.be/CuonyS3xdwg?t=93

I have not read the reviews yet on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BA...slink=true

Can confirm that the write speeds on these are absolute garbage. I bought the five pack of 64 GB and two pack of 128. Write speeds averaged at about 7 MB a second for continuous write of larger files. Basically unusable for anything but archival storage or OS installs like others have mentioned. Read speeds weren't great but were acceptable for the price. These are the kind of USB thumb drives that I would expect to find sitting on a gas station counter in a clear plastic bucket, possibly mixed in with colourful cigarette lighters.

I kept the five pack of 64 GB and returned the 128s. I pity the poor bastard who buys the 256 or 512.
