Do not buy any La Crosse product. Their products do not last long. Their warranty support is almost non-existent. If you are so lucky that you could contact them, their warranty process is difficult that it 'd make you feel put off to pursue. Acurite products last longer and are generally in the same price range.

La Crosse Technology make okay/decent weather stations for beginners.

do note though that the displays have a limited viewing angle and the sensors will break either right before or right after the warranty is over.

i had a wind speed sensor break and start reading wayyy off the chart but the weather station was still in warranty so they sent me a replacement wind speed sensor in about a week though that was several years back.

when i received the replacement wind speed sensor i boxed up/stored the La Cross and purchased a AccuRite Iris, then a ambient weather 2000, and AccuRite Atlas (walmart special a couple of xmas back). it did purchase a ambient weather 5000 recently for around $400, but ended up returning it as i felt it was kind of flimsy for the cost. maybe one day i can afford a davis to add to my backyard weather array.

the way to go now if you can afford it is davis > ambient weather (2000 or 5000 model) > AccuRite Iris/Atlas.

someone always says this in the weather array threads. weather stations are for hobbiest and you get your spot on weather instead of 10 miles away at the airport and/or tv station. though keep using your phone as this would be over your head.

If your neighbor has one, you can always just receive their reading using rt_433 software and an SDR. Pretty fun!

Depending on what app you use, where they source their data, and where you live, you might not be getting accurate information. Check out ForecastAdvisor and see how wildly different your forecast could be from accurate.

I have eyes and an old man body. I can both report AND predict the weather much better than your phone.

several of our neighbors purchased displays ~$50ish (ebay) and pull in the signals from our weather arrays.

You'd have to look for it on the web or in the app to be sure, but I believe it gets it from weather.com, which is The Weather Channel. Just about every forecast I've seen has it listed somewhere. You can also use the data to search for an app that uses the most accurate data for your area.

I have had decent luck with a larger weather station, however, warning if your router doesn't have dedicated 2.4/5GHZ channels, it will have some issues since it only works on 2.4GHZ (as far as I know). Knowing the exact weather outside is pretty helpful.

Just fyi...Used Lacrosse and Weather channel in the past...now am happily using this from Amazon. A little more expensive, but, Clearer Screen, bigger unit (for wall) and easy to see from far. Time is atomic and accurate, Temp is pretty close. Worth a look.

I also got one at Kohl's about 10 years ago called Smart Gear for about the same price. It has weather prediction with graphics displays: Clouds, Sun, Lightning. Still works and so does the outside sensor which is pretty amazing. It's been through many hurricanes!

Have had nothing but bad luck with these small weather stations from La Crosse. Went through three of them, as every one of them had the backlight go dark at random. All three also were not reporting the correct temperature nor humidity. I'd personally recommend a small weather station from Ambient Weather. Reliable, and unique amongst them in that you can adjust the temperature and humidity to a known good source if you feel they're incorrect. No fiddling with the time either on them as they have an atomic clock.
