Overpriced - Yes. I bought my Embody on sale directly from Herman Miller for 1k with all the extras. This was in 2016, I get inflation but the new price is beyond inflation. The same chair I purchased in 2016 for $1050 is now $2020.

Over-hyped - I still don't think so. Due to life happening, at a young age I've always had lower back pain. Sitting down in an office chair never helped either. I researched Embody and decided to pull the trigger on it seven years ago. After adjusting I've never felt back pain sitting down, at least not in this chair. I used to work at an office and sat in multiple chairs depending which office/conference room I was visiting and every chair made my back eventually hurt. A lot of these chairs were very expensive as well. Plenty of online reviews comparing chairs, mostly all reviewers agree Embody chair is great.

I work from home now, and the only thing I would like to have on my Embody is a headrest. Luckily "Atlas Headrests" have made a headrest for it. I'm just waiting for mine to eventually ship.

Would I buy an Embody again? Yes. Would I wait for a bigger sale before buying one? Maybe

Herman Miller isn't the only bad guy here when it comes to over inflating cost, Steel Case has done the very same thing. The Haworth Fern does seem like an interesting option.

Why so much?
The money to buy the CEO a 3rd vacation home has to come from somewhere.

i bought the purple gaming embody a couple months ago but returned it cause it was just so loud and the build quality felt cheap. I recently got the gaming aeron and it feels so much sturdier.

Im a CEO and own an embody and completely agree with you. But i sit and code most of the day and this chair is incredible over the cheap chairs i had before (easy 6hr endurance vs 1hr needing to get up and stretch and yes getting up periodically is ideal)

If you own this chair or something in this amount. YOU should not be on slickdeals 😂
Depends, just have to look around sometimes. Picked up my Herman Miller Embody for $60 at a government auction, even came with a few other office chairs.

Honest question: what's the difference between sitting at a desk for task work and gaming? They're pretty similar for me.
Sitting upright vs. being in a relaxed (leaning back) position.

None of those chairs are "gaming"! They are simply comfy task work chairs, if tou sit upright for 8-10hrs, those are great ... For gaming? None of these are good... If for gaming, SecretLab Evo 2022 or Kaiser 3 by Anda Set... Those are the top gaming chairs...
The Razer Iskur doesn't seem like a great option but it is for back pain. Not the most comfy bottom pad but not bad either. The adjustable lumbar support is really good on the chair. It has a pneumatic lever and works well. My back never hurts. I was skeptical like many because I already had a SL Titan but the built in lumbar is very minor in comparison to adjustability. The Razer chair has one thing that stands out for the $4-500 range and for two years now I've had zero back pain sitting in it.

I've had the Embody since 2017, still works great like new. It's tank, and a heavy chair so if you accidently roll it over your toes you'll be hurting. Prior, I used to get those Office Depot or Staples chairs and they would fall apart within a few years. This $1.2k chair is a lot cheaper than a chiropractor.

Anyone who is on the fence about this and has lower back pain should jump on it. I'm a software developer and my back pain was at the point where I thought I might need to find another career. I bought an Embody close to 10 years ago and it has changed my life. No more back pain at all.

I bought one from an online retailer that sold them without arms for around $1k.

Well, everyone still buying after the last president acted an even bigger fool. Can't always use that as a rule acrossthe board, but we do control what we do with our money. Herman Miller makes some great chairs, many of them can be had from second hand sellers who refurbished stock of businesses who no longer needed them post pandemic. I found an refurbished fully loaded Aeron for 450 last fall on Ebay with a 10 year warranty for my remote job. I wanted an embody, but didn't want to pay 950 for one.

I have always found the Aeron terrible and the Embody maybe even worse but the Mirra is actually not bad.
For the Money I would get the Used Hm Sayl. Sits the same as a Embody but for much less, I paid only $125 for my used HM SAYL and its worth every penny based on the price and usuability. I can't even sell both my Logitech Embody's for what I paid $620 each and it still looks brand new, Stay away from the hype. Go with whats best for your wallet.

Does anyone who owns the gaming Embody have an opinion on this?

I own an Embody that I bought for $600 like 10 years ago. The perks of Silicon Valley I guess (such that they are). It's doing... ok but it's starting to really show its age, so I was looking at the new gaming models to switch it up. Is it really cheaper in construction?

It's just surprising to hear because my 10 year old Embody is ridiculously solid...?
