Overpriced - Yes. I bought my Embody on sale directly from Herman Miller for 1k with all the extras. This was in 2016, I get inflation but the new price is beyond inflation. The same chair I purchased in 2016 for $1050 is now $2020.

Over-hyped - I still don't think so. Due to life happening, at a young age I've always had lower back pain. Sitting down in an office chair never helped either. I researched Embody and decided to pull the trigger on it seven years ago. After adjusting I've never felt back pain sitting down, at least not in this chair. I used to work at an office and sat in multiple chairs depending which office/conference room I was visiting and every chair made my back eventually hurt. A lot of these chairs were very expensive as well. Plenty of online reviews comparing chairs, mostly all reviewers agree Embody chair is great.

I work from home now, and the only thing I would like to have on my Embody is a headrest. Luckily "Atlas Headrests" have made a headrest for it. I'm just waiting for mine to eventually ship.

Would I buy an Embody again? Yes. Would I wait for a bigger sale before buying one? Maybe

Herman Miller isn't the only bad guy here when it comes to over inflating cost, Steel Case has done the very same thing. The Haworth Fern does seem like an interesting option.

Do you find the Haworth softer? Tired of my butt falling asleep on embody. Plus the seat pan never stays extended. It slowly retracts after 20 mins or so.

Embody is fine, but still firmly think it's hype. No doubt.

If you got the cash, don't feel like shopping around and finding something better, go for it
The Fern seat is not soft enough. It also has that empty feel behind your sacrum like a lot of chairs, especially with Steelcase ones that literally have a void there. This promotes anterior pelvic tilt.

I was able to solve both of these by slapping a big square of 2" thick Latex from a retired mattress topper on the Fern. It raises me position enough to get some semblance of sacrum support and cushion the glutes nicely.

I'm sorta with you. I got an Aeron last year for a really good deal and it's kinda just a chair. Which is a real bummer. The mesh isn't soft or forgiving at all. Lumbar "support" is two thin pieces of plastic with a 2mm foam backing. Of the two, neither has vertical adjustment and the horizontal is weird. All in, I'm really disappointed for almost $1500.
HM, and Aeron in particular, are best purchased pre-owned.

I simply got tired of wearing out Amazon/Costco chairs and bought something that will last forever.

Love my Aeron, but would not pay $1500 for it either.

Honest question: what's the difference between sitting at a desk for task work and gaming? They're pretty similar for me.
Nothing lol, unless they added a cup holder or a cool/warm feature or some type of sense feedback. They are all office chairs. I wish they would provide more actual features to differentiate them from standard office chairs other than different colors.

Thanks for this info! Don't know why it's so difficult to find good butt padding on office chairs.. even ones the cost 1k+.

its honestly ridiculous that we have to pay extra to buy a chair cushion after spending that much on a chair. i had to get rid of the leap and aeron because of the same 'gap' behind my low back and butt. finding a chair with good SI joint support has been a real problem.

Atlas just released them. Google it. It's the ONLY one because Herman Miller don't 'believe" in head rest for proper sitting - another BS statement from the. Probably going to sell mine. I need a headrest and don't want to pay $200 for a 3rd party one, albeit Atlas is known for quality so no issues with them

the recline on the embody seemed steeper than most chairs i tried, but i don't lean back when i sit. i sit straight up until i'm done using the computer. so this was not a benefit for me.
This is a very important point. The embody chair is a "relaxed posture" chair. In my experience, it will provide pretty much no lumbar support unless you lean back into it. Also, tilting the back forward using the posturefit dial doesn't increase the lumbar so you end up with a hammock shape that doesn't support your back. Basically you trade shoulder support for lumbar support.

I'm still overall satisfied enough with mine I guess. But to me it's been more of a 7/10 chair. Which is saying a lot! Everything I owned before that was like 3/10.

No matter how expensive your chair is, it doesn't really help your back any. We have these at work and they don't really maintain my posture. The one I bought from amazon for $50 does the same job. lol LMAOPeace

I bought the fairly high-end version of the Herman Miller Areron with leather hand rest and all the fixings for adjustments for ~900-$1000 brand new probably around 2012. . damn I'm old... anyways at the time they also had the Leap to try out at the place I bought. That was the other chair I was eyeing going in and it was a really hard decision and ever since I've wondered if that would have been better.

Few months ago I briefly checked out some of the top and chairs again and I saw the insane price increase.

However seeing some of these embodies and Leap 2's on sale it's got me thinking. I could either take One of the two chairs to my office and keep the other at the battle station at home. Or I could sell my old chair if I like the new one more.

Still kind of fishing for a bigger discount maybe I'll try and check for used chairs but I think I'd prefer new.
