I bought the 15" model last October for $300 (has numeric keypad), works great. The webcam is poor quality. Speakers are okay. The screen is a decent ips (no issues with it falling out like some reported in previous deal threads). They keyboard is nothing special. A tad heavy but it uses metal/limited plastic so build quality is average. The battery only lasts ~3hrs unplugged w battery saver browsing web/watching youtube/movies.
It has older wifi 5 & bt 5. One thing I noticed though is my HDMI output can only do 4k at 30fps, not 60fps so not really watchable. 1080p HD looks fine hooking up to TV though. I'm not sure about the usb-c output resolution.
It has a hatch in the back to add a backup m2 ssd drive (Leven JM600 1tb $40 off amazon).
Given that it's still very snappy. Have 2 of them and work just fine.

The left edge of that shift key is in the correct place. It's missing 1/4 or so part of the right side. I naturally finds it just fine. I did a test trying to reach the missing part and my index finger moved away from the J Key. So using the missing part of the right shift key could slow down my typing. So I never use it and it's not an issue for me.
But depending on how you type, you may have problem with it.
Many of the mechanical typewriters also have smaller right shift keys and a larger left shift keys.
What's more important though is it has the HOME and END keys where on the Dell XPS-15, I'd need to use FN+HOME and FN+END. The HOME and END keys are used very often when writing/editing tech documents.
I rather type on this than the Lenovo Ideapad 3 14" where there're no dedicated PageUp, PageDown, HOME, and END keys. You'd need to do two key combos to get them. Sucks to read/write/edit docs.

Here's the support link to all available drivers: https://gatewayusa.com/support.html
Did you do a fresh install of Windows 11 from Microsoft? If so, let us know if the volume did indeed go louder after installing the audio driver from Gateway please.
If you still having problems with the file, then it maybe your browser setting preventing you from doing it. Let us know.

The only drivers I see for GWTN156-1 are for Windows 10 and the link to the audio driver is empty so I can't help you there. Best to contact Gateway support.

I wonder how common are battery bulge on laptops. My Dell XPS-15 (2012) was still perfect 'till 2021 aside from the screen peeling off a little on the right edge, but I only use it on vacations so that's no more than 3-4 weeks per year. I have a Xiaomi 10K mAh power bank that has this problem after only a few uses.
I guess time will tell how well this one will hold up.
I was one of the first to get one, others still had HP.
Now, they're rotating their leases out to Thinkpads, experiencing the same lockups and crashes.
The glory days of Thinkpads are long gone.
I was unsure if this laptop (which I already have) would be able to display out of the usc-c port with an external brick. What is a good external brick? I saw some mentioning Dell.
Thanks in advance.

Dell makes a USB-C to HDMI and a USB-C to HDMI+DP adapter. Those should work. I have the HDMI one at home and I will test it when I get home next week.

Docking station is another story. They're expensive. Dell makes a USB-C and a TB docking station. I've used the TB version with a Dell Precision laptop at work. It has its own power supply and runs its own software internally. Most likely the TB version will not work since I don't think the Gateway has TB. Not sure about the USB-C version. I took the laptop home every night and one time while connecting or disconnecting the usb-c, something in the laptop blew up then the dock stops working in any usb-c port. Funny enough, the USB-C to HDMI adapter still works. IMO, the thick cables in these docks assert more force on the ports when things don't line up properly. And the ports on these Precision laptops are too loosey goosey.

My current score with fresh Microsoft Windows 11 install
Read Write
559.31 509.55
438.53 411.43
267.73 253.02

The highest score before I did the fresh W11 install was 440. 100MB less. Maybe it was still windows updates when I ran it?
