It's way better than a Chromebook. Make sure you modify the power limit and graphics settings in bios (watch ETA Prime youtube vid) to double the performance. You can't beat this value for the cpu and 16gb (soldered) ram and 500gb m2 ssd. Free upgrade to Win11. Limited bloatware. Refurbished units pop up on walmart for ~$260 of the 14" model.

I bought the 15" model last October for $300 (has numeric keypad), works great. The webcam is poor quality. Speakers are okay. The screen is a decent ips (no issues with it falling out like some reported in previous deal threads). They keyboard is nothing special. A tad heavy but it uses metal/limited plastic so build quality is average. The battery only lasts ~3hrs unplugged w battery saver browsing web/watching youtube/movies.

It has older wifi 5 & bt 5. One thing I noticed though is my HDMI output can only do 4k at 30fps, not 60fps so not really watchable. 1080p HD looks fine hooking up to TV though. I'm not sure about the usb-c output resolution.

It has a hatch in the back to add a backup m2 ssd drive (Leven JM600 1tb $40 off amazon).

Just to let everyone know the ssd drive is sata. Only 550mb per sec transfer.
Given that it's still very snappy. Have 2 of them and work just fine.

No sorry. If there's such setting it would be a firmware thing and in such case, it would be in the BIOS. I dug around BIOS myself and couldn't find anything. I'll let you know if I find anything.

There's, however, a BIOS setting to set the Gateway Logo display time, ships with default 5 seconds. I set mine to 1 second. If Delete Key is not hit in that time, BIOS boots into the OS.
Otherwise, BIOS enters the BIOS setup pages. I don't know if it's possible to set to 0, but I would not set it to 0 bc otherwise, it'll be difficult or impossible to get into the BIOS.

What have you tried to make it work? Did the NVME drive show up in the BIOS? There was a youtube video showing a 15.6" version I think a couple years back that shows a "PCIe *4" label near the internal M.2 connector so clearly, the board was laid out to support NVME. I'm not sure if there're nvme specific hardware that sits between the NVME connector and the southbridge. If there's, maybe Gateway cheap out by not populating the components?

IDTS. That option gives single press to put computer to sleep and once in sleep, press ANY key to wait the computer up.

All the DIY PCs I built and my Dell XPS-15 all turn on with one single press. My Samsung Book Pro 360 which is a 2-in-1 needs to hold down the power key for a few. It makes sense in a 2-in-1, but kinda annoying in a standard laptop.

But no matter, like you, I setup my power button to put computer to sleep. So my computer rarely turns OFF. Majority of the times, I just press any key to wait the computer up.

I got one like this last year and for the price it's amazing. I even edit 4k video on it from a sony zv-e10. There are some negatives. Build quality isn't great. I've had the rubber feet on mine just fall off. The track pad is not reliable. But add a wireless mouse and that will fix that. I use it for creative writing and none of these are really issues there. And for 4k editing I use it with an external monitor, mouse, and keyboard. And I'm constantly shocked at how well it performs. I just need to add a bigger drive (only SAT by the way). Again for the price this is fantastic.

I just purchase the Blue model and safe side i have taken their 3 yrs protection plan for $59. Total came $361
Never took the protection plan in the past but wanna understand if this plan can be covered even if i am in canada?
I am a snow bird and lives in states during the winter months and rest of the year in canada (toronto).

Now i am getting tempted with this refurb one which is for $195 (blue color) but hesitating as i never again bought a used laptop in the past. but tempting to save further $70.
