I own this mower, and while i like most things about it, if you side discharge, this mower isn't for you. Instead of a traditional side discharge, it actually goes through the mulch plug area and makes a crazy tight corner to exit behind the right wheel.

If your lawn is at all long (and if you are using side discharge, it probably is), it will clog all the time. And on those rare occasions that it doesn't, it will leave rows of clumped up grass because of how little force the discharge has by the time it gets to the back of the mower.

This mower is great for mulching. If your grass is too long for that, then you will be bagging, because side discharge isn't going to happen.

I went to DG and bought Lowe's gift card @10% discount. So with sale and gift card came out $200 below regular price.

Let me just say that I got this exact mower last year at this time and it has been one of the best lawn equipment purchases I have ever made. Can easily get through my lawn (a little over 1/4 acre) with charge left over. The mower cuts through high or wet grass with ease. I don't bag, so I can't speak to how good the bag is but the mulching blade is very good. The battery lasts just as long this year as it did last year. It is so nice to not have to worry about running to the gas station to fill up a can or to ever have to worry about pulling a cord to start it. Couldn't be more pleased.

My personal experience have been extremely well. I have all the 1st gen tools and they all still work including the batteries. 7 years, after cutting I charge the batteries to 50% and store them inside.

I did have a handle issue (4.5 years) with all the folding after cutting. besides having to drive an hour to an authorized repair shop, it's been great.

Definitely get the self propelled for the extra $100, you won't regret it. It's like just strolling with your lawn mover instead of pushing it. I live in fl so it gets used pretty often in the summers

Have only had mine a month and it's ok. One of the issues I've noticed while bagging is that 3 out of 4 times I've cut my lawn the grass isn't able to make its way into the upper part of the bag to completely fill up. Thus clogging the mower and it turning off. So I was emptying the bag when it was only 50-75% full which was annoying.

Note though: I did change the blade to the "balanced" one before my first cut so have been curious if that has something to do with it or not.

I got it last year for a hundred off. Light mowers are easy to push but RWD makes it even better. Trick is to mow weekly on a dry day, hard to do here in the PNW spring. I use mulching blade for dry spells or just add bag if long. I also take my time with some generous overlap. It's worth it just for reliability and lack of maintenance. Saw the Stihl ad on TV with commercial guys switching. Too bad they didn't use Ego, top rated and good ecosystem. The mower will go a whole hour on one charge.

I'm in the same boat. My old Craftsman mower works perfectly. Starting it after the winter, one pull and it started right up. Must hold back! Lol

But this is a really good deal for a new kit with battery.
Ugh, same boat. My craftsman took 5 pulls to start after coming out of winter. That means it's broken, right? lol

Darn Honda engine lasting 14 years and still running like it's new! Darn my smart buying decisions!

Ah well, maybe next year Smilie

I have had the original Ego self propelled mower for about 6 years, but I just bought the 80v Greenworks at Costco. I didn't really want to jump to a new battery ecosystem, but the 8 year battery warranty through Costco swayed me. The only issue I've ever had with the Ego has been batteries dying, so the crazy battery warranty is huge for me.

As far as the mower goes, I've been pleasantly surprised. I didn't think I'd like it as much as the Ego, but I think it's better (granted, I have an older Ego that isn't the one in this thread).

Greenworks Pros:
$100 cheaper
8 yr battery warranty through Costco
Seems to cut better even without high lift blade (no mohawks so far)
Button to permanently use full power
Metal deck with true side discharge

Cons:
No self propel without blade running (Egos can do this)
Doesn't fold up quite as small
2 batteries to charge instead of just 1
Self propel speed control is weird—most of the slider is way too slow, and it suddenly jumps to very fast near the end…very fine line on where it feels comfortable to me.

I just wish I had made the swap last year when the mower came with 2x 4.0ah batteries rather than 1x 4.0 and 1x 2.0. It's still enough to cover my yard, but it'd be nice to have a little extra cushion for days where I have to mow tall/wet grass. Also, if it matters to you, the Greenworks is the top battery mower on Consumer Reports right now.
Two issues with your comment. First is the con about no self propel without the blade is running is just wrong. All you do is simply pull the grey trigger and then press the start button. It will propel without the blades.

Second the two batteries needing to be charged isn't really a con since you don't have to use two batteries but if you need two batteries it's there to autoswitch over to. So essentially this could be a pro since it will take longer to need a battery swap.

This is what would hold me back on the Costco. I couldn't imagine the extra weight & wait time.
Flip side would have to compare it the 8 year warranty which I know Costco is good for!

I bought this model last year & it's good but has not blown me away vs. my prior Craftsman V60 (discontinued).

Mostly WTH for:
Weird variable speed scrolling - not very linear speed changes.
Upside down handle places hands in very uncomfortable position for pushing more so good for pulling.
You do realize you don't have to use two batteries right? It's there if you want more run time since it will auto switch over once the first battery is dead.

Is this the latest model? Is this as cheap as they get?
It was 450 last november and it doesn't come with the 2x 4ah batteries anymore like it did last year,

Any recommendations on where to get the blades sharpened?
It will cost around $20 to sharpen the blades, might as well spending a few more dollars to buy a new one. The high lifting blades goes on sell on Amazon every few months.

Or get a grinder and sharpen yourself.

Get a handheld angle grinder and disc. Takes 5 minutes to sharpen yourself. You should sharpen the blades 2x a year. Makes a huge difference in efficiency, especially for electric mowers.

Any lawn mower shop, or do it yourself. Use a flat bastard file or a mower blade sharpener that attaches to your drill. They aren't very expensive. See Amazon, Home Depot, Wally World or Lowes.

One thing I love about my gas mowers is parts are cheap. Are replacement parts for electric mowers such as replacement blades cheap and plentiful?
