Can never recommend the trimmer. Mine overheats in about 10 min. if the temp outside is over 80. Doesn't matter what battery I use, the tool overheats. Pretty common issue if you Google it.
Just buy EGO brand outdoor power tools in my opinion. I love Milwaukee for standard tools, but EGO won me over big-time in the yard care category. I recommend Acme tools refurbished section for good prices. They sell on ebay as well if you want ebay's return/buyer policies.

Luckily have not had that issue with three seasons worth of use, with 5.0, 6.0 or 8.0 batts. Does it stop running?
If you don't want all of these attachments you can get a good deal bundling the stuff you want with their current "Buy more save more" promotion on some Milwaukee stuff, I think you need a Pro account for it.
I'm looking at getting the string trimmer w/ battery, pole saw and edger for $412 with that promotion.

I have a similar thing, I do not think mine overheats, but the trimmer drains all batteries that I have in 10ish minutes. I have a 12Amp/hr, 2x 8, 6*5Amp/hr. All the same. After 10 minutes a battery is drained, and I have to switch. Also have an ego trimmer, 30 minutes on a 2.5Amp/hr (40V?) Battery, not such a hassle.
One of the few Milwaukee tools I have been severely disappointed with. There does seem to be a pattern, for those that might be interested.
I've had my weed whacker 3 years now. Use it on 2 acres of property. It's been flawless. It has never overheated and doesn't chew up batteries.
I know there are several different kinds. One that is the fixed trimmer, the one that interchanges and I believe there's an older non-fuel model that just states brushless like some Of their tools. Maybe that is the one with issues?

I have the quick lock tool with the edger, weed whacker, and polesaw. I've not used the polesaw but I'm super happy with the edger and weed wacker. I use the edger more since I have a corner house.
Theyre easy to swap and feel sturdy. The tool has a button to switch between slower or faster speed.
The trigger has a safety system where you have to depress a tab with your thumb before the trigger actually turns on the tool. You have to do both at the same time. I found this to be the hardest part to get used to. Initially my hand/fingers would get very tired. But you build up tolerance to it like any chore. I recommend pulling the trigger with two fingers so you don't strain your pointer finger. It doesn't seem like a big deal but trust me, years of vibration and tension can wreck your tendons/joints.
Personally I've not had the issues the others here have commented. Just my two cents.
This is first ive heard of overheating problem. guess I've been lucky. i use mine every weekend for about 20 mins straight on 8.0 HO battery. full throttle half the time and never had issue. Battery only goes down half way. i love mine. pole saw is great, even better with extension on it. havent tried any of the other attachments though i do want the edger this year.

That's too bad, I have the trimmer and live in an area of SoCal that sees 100 + temps in the summer and I've never had an issue in two years of ownership.

Yes. I have 3 6.0 batts and 2 8.0. They'll all do the same thing after a few min, trimmer just stops and I have to wait a few min and it'll start working again. Lots of reviews on HD talk about the issue. Guess I just got lucky!

Ego is like Lexus of garden equipment - reliable, thought-out and luxurious. Absolutely loved it when I had the set-up. You can definitely tell Milwaukee is a newcomer to the game - definitely has few rough edges and overall feels a lot cheaper, although is not cheap by any means. It's still a good deal for those of us who are vested in the M18 ecosystem and have multiple spare batteries.

For sure. Not bad by any means, I just couldn't change back after getting a few cheap ego deals. Not knocking the M18 lineup for sure.

Mine has literally never overheated and I use it twice a week in the midwest, it's 90 all summer
