Don't look at someone's phone and judge them if they are rich or poor. There are rich people with old cheap phones and there are definitely "poor" people who paid +$1k on phones and paying high monthly plans that they really shouldn't be.

Ummm. You do realize that the phone works during the first months with calls, texts and data? Some people would be happy to use unlimited data in that first month. All those apps, games, camera, etc. work with or without service. Lot of people use multiple phones. I do. Lot of people have lots of wifi outside their home especially with some cable service they may use.

* I have a Pixel 6a and I do like it but it has its cons. The battery life isn't that good and the screen is little bit too small at 6.1" for my liking for browsing chrome/youtube so I prefer to use my other larger screen phones with the big battery at home or my Samsung tablet at home when browsing chrome or YouTube. For me to use my Pixel 6a for browsing chrome/YouTube is wasting battery on a phone that already doesn't have solid battery life and just not that good of experience on 6.1" screen vs my larger screen phones. Answer? Large screen phone with solid battery or tablet.

* 6 months goes by quicker than you think. People aren't like upgrading their phones after every 2 months and it is "so needed" to upgraded from their phone. Patience is a virtue especially for Slickdealers who know a good bang for the buck phone deal or knows money saving tips on deals.

for those new to M deals.

suggest

read wiki

lots of good info

trust me

here is sample:

To have the phone unlock automatically in 180 days (6 months)

You need to have activated the phone 180 days ago.
You do not. repeat do NOT have to pay for service 180 days

the above has been true for most every metro deal in the past.
both apple and android

Most people get the 1 month service.
Then simply place phone in a drawer .
wait 6 months.

The sim can be left in phone or stored safely.
It does not matter, as long as you DO NOT THROW AWAY THE SIM until you get a confirmed unlock

Phone should/will unlock in ~180 days + 6 -10 days.

best chance of success as follows:
During the ~6 month wait.
YOU can use as wifi device.
keep sim in phone.
when getting near the 180 day , have phone connected to wi-fi.
Try to unlock the device, once 1-2 days from day 180 onwards.

- None of us knows when Metro is going to close this unofficial loophole, .
-However this has been in effect with Metro phone deals for last ~4-5 years

Exercise your own judgement,

Has anyone tried buying one of the metro phones , and instead of waiting 6 months to be unlocked , purchasing an unlock code on eBay? I heard they are $3-$5 ?

Any feedback on this?

Can you order online and have it shipped or is that in-store only? also I searched and didn't see a deal posted for an iphone 12 for 99 shipped.

no. i mean it's about time metro offers the iphone 12.
they can't keep offering the iphone 11 forever.

Slow phones? You're just expecting faster, better, more. Consumerism demands more sales, more consumption, more expansion. Manufacturers purposely make batteries non-removable because battery degradation is the only real issue with smartphones after 3, 4, maybe 5 years or more. The same concept with limiting security updates, because they want you to buy more.

2 year old device is still plenty capable today. It's not slow, just look at actual budget devices like Moto or OnePlus phones.

Hell just look at iPhone 13 vs 14, difference between those two devices is a joke. If they didn't add 2gb Ram onto 14 & Apple fanboys weren't braindead I'd be surprised if they sold a single unit. The two phones are practically identical.

People get so stuck on powerful processors and overexaggerate midrange processors being slow. When I ran a speed test between my Pixel 6a with its powerful Tensor processor (705k antutu) vs my Samsung Galaxy A71 5G with its Snapdragon 765G processor (332k antutu), the Samsung held up really well. Performed better than I imagined. We are talking about fraction of seconds or maybe 1-2 seconds faster opening. The only big difference was with opening 1945 Air Force game as it took quite longer to open up. I have both phones side by side when I ran my test. Lots of various apps running and games too.

I have the Exynos chip in my Samsung tablet and it runs awesome. I was concerned before I bought the tablet as I heard complaints but the Exynos chip has been great to me for my use. I am not some big demanding game user. I am actually typing on my Samsun Galaxy S6 Lite tablet with its Exynos. Runs awesome and it still has so much life left. I have zero interest in upgrading my tablet.

See info here https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...icy#unlock .

To confirm that the phone is unlocked, put a non-Metro SIM into the phone (doesn't have to be an active SIM). If no error messages pop up, then the phone is unlocked. With some phone makes/models, you can check its SIM Unlock Status in its Settings.

I thought the A14 was a pretty good deal and bought that one a couple months ago. I was considering getting the A23 also and eventually using as my main phone line instead, but it costs $10 more than the previous deal and you get the $40 plan instead of the $50 plan, so I threw down the extra $50 for the A54 instead. The Samsung site says that this is currently the best A series Samsung phone on the market.

Those "basic" and "cheap" unlock codes no longer work for most cases.
Carriers have clamped down on those in the past 2-4 years.
Some sellers still offer the "premium" unlock codes usually $50 to $100, those work but are harder to find and still a significant chance of them not working.

Can you use it on Verizon after unlocked?
I don't see why you cannot. Since Verizon is also GSM now 4G onwards and if the phone has the compliant radios which I think all major companies do. Youay have to do the SIM configuration at most. I suggest try Verizon for 30 days with the eSIM option.

You don't need to wait for 6 months to use it. You can keep ordering metro free phone and after 2 weeks, just switch the plan to the galaxy A54, so you can keep using galaxy A54. After 6 months, you will have an unlocked galaxy A54 and you can stop ordering metro phones. Then you will get another unlocked metro phone for every 2 weeks and it will keep going for another 6 months...
well i meant to use it outside of metro ... i suppose if you plan to use it there, that's a good deal

Who says one has to wait 6 months? Phones don't get dated after 6 months. What is dated? The processor is plenty powerful. The great looking AMOLED screen? Nice camera? 120hz? Why would a March 2023 released phone feel dated because it is being used 6 months later? One has to be a phone freak to be upgrading their phone every 6 months with the next latest greatest spec phone. Samsung phones get like 4-5 years of updates.

Who says one needs to put it in a drawer? People can use these phone with metro plan or as a mini tablet or media player.

Metro sells an iphone 11 from 2019 with ips screen and 64gb internal storage. That is long in the tooth. iPhone SE feels dated for obvious reasons.
what's the cheapest unlimited metro plan?
