Don't look at someone's phone and judge them if they are rich or poor. There are rich people with old cheap phones and there are definitely "poor" people who paid +$1k on phones and paying high monthly plans that they really shouldn't be.

Ummm. You do realize that the phone works during the first months with calls, texts and data? Some people would be happy to use unlimited data in that first month. All those apps, games, camera, etc. work with or without service. Lot of people use multiple phones. I do. Lot of people have lots of wifi outside their home especially with some cable service they may use.

* I have a Pixel 6a and I do like it but it has its cons. The battery life isn't that good and the screen is little bit too small at 6.1" for my liking for browsing chrome/youtube so I prefer to use my other larger screen phones with the big battery at home or my Samsung tablet at home when browsing chrome or YouTube. For me to use my Pixel 6a for browsing chrome/YouTube is wasting battery on a phone that already doesn't have solid battery life and just not that good of experience on 6.1" screen vs my larger screen phones. Answer? Large screen phone with solid battery or tablet.

* 6 months goes by quicker than you think. People aren't like upgrading their phones after every 2 months and it is "so needed" to upgraded from their phone. Patience is a virtue especially for Slickdealers who know a good bang for the buck phone deal or knows money saving tips on deals.

for those new to M deals.

suggest

read wiki

lots of good info

trust me

here is sample:

To have the phone unlock automatically in 180 days (6 months)

You need to have activated the phone 180 days ago.
You do not. repeat do NOT have to pay for service 180 days

the above has been true for most every metro deal in the past.
both apple and android

Most people get the 1 month service.
Then simply place phone in a drawer .
wait 6 months.

The sim can be left in phone or stored safely.
It does not matter, as long as you DO NOT THROW AWAY THE SIM until you get a confirmed unlock

Phone should/will unlock in ~180 days + 6 -10 days.

best chance of success as follows:
During the ~6 month wait.
YOU can use as wifi device.
keep sim in phone.
when getting near the 180 day , have phone connected to wi-fi.
Try to unlock the device, once 1-2 days from day 180 onwards.

- None of us knows when Metro is going to close this unofficial loophole, .
-However this has been in effect with Metro phone deals for last ~4-5 years

Exercise your own judgement,

Don't think so, but check the email you used for the account/order. I got an email from T-Mobile USA when I activated the phone. Email had the subject, "You did it! Your phone is active"

Follow up status here. My phone activated on May 11, expect 180 days will be on Nov 7. Now is 4:45am Nov 6, i gave it a shot by sending unlock request in the app. Request went thru unexpectedly, say ur phone is now permanently unlocked.

If you don't mind, what specific steps did you do to unlock it? I'm at day 180 and I keep getting a refusal to unlock with code 37.

If u get the code that mean u are having network unlock app open like mine. So instead of throwing out 37 code like your, my just say ur phone is now permanently unlocked then the app close out by itself. Once open the app again, the top line will say ur phone is unlocked and the second line to request unlock get grayed out.
My other A54 which activated on same day still throwing 37 error, so i guess it's ymmv as some get 1 day early unlock and some dont, give ur another shot tmr and it should pass

It seems actually you don't need to do anything. In my case, I activated it at May 9 but the email sent from metro said it's activated at May 10, so it should be unlocked at Nov 5 or Nov 6. I keep clicking that unlock button and always got error till 10pm Nov 5 (Pacific time). Then after 11pm, when I planed to try again, I found the "unlock app" is gone. Then it turned out it's already unlocked automatically. So I guess for A54, you just let it connect to Wifi and don't do anything, it will unlock itself when it's qualified.

Also, after it's unlocked, I transferred a t-mobile esim to it and then all metro app were gone automatically, but I did get some t mobible app (I can't delete them) instead. The flash screen also changed to t mobile. Not sure what will happen if I put in another carrier sim.

My email said my phone was activated May 9th but it won't unlock. Keep getting error 37.

Used the metropcs service during the first month and the original sim is still inside.

Do you leave mobile data on (there is none but wondering if that matters) or just wifi? Unlocked several moto g stylus' with no problem.

thanks

i can confirm same when locked and insert a TM sim.
same thing happens. but no calls or data as expected, as it is locked.
take TM sim out insert M sim...and all goes back to Metro phone.

so appears to be interchangeable, depending on sim inserted.

I just leave the sim in and I don't disable data. Yeah, this is the first time I got a "delayed" unlock.

Oops, checked the texts on the phone and realized I activated it in June. I have an s21fe that I activated on May 9th. Just checked and it was already unlocked. Didn't have to do anything.

Debating if s23fe is worth the upgrade.

Thanks for answering!

I'm using my unlocked Metro A54 with a Qlink (T-mo) SIM and it still has the Metro splash screen at boot-up, and the Metro apps are still there after a reset (I disabled most of them though).

Thanks. The "allow 5G service" is on and grayed out.

Trying this way:

dial *#2263#, a menu pop up and gives choice, stack1 and stack2. It should be 2 SIMs. Select stack1 and then I got the LTE option.

I'm not interested in the Metro S23FE (already have an unlocked Google Fi S23) so I don't know about its specs.

Just for grins, try going into your Metro A54 Settings-->Connections-->Mobile Networks-->turn "Allow 5G service" OFF and see if it works on Xfinity/Verizon with 4G/LTE. I did that with my Metro A54 which is using Qlink (T-mo) because the 5G signal at my location is very weak and I don't care about 5G Data speed. Forcing it to use 4G/LTE and I'm getting a much stronger signal.
