after two attempts to buy this on ebay fake/fraud listings, i gave in. few bucks more perhaps but costco gives 90 days. thanks op.

my only question/worry: how many fewer years of support will this model get compared to a m2 pro mini? can someone shed light on that and what $$ that is worth? TIA.
I think apple silicon will be supported for many many years to come. I'm gonna guess 7 years of OS total? 5 years from now? I'm just totally guessing of course.

my 2017 ipad pro still gets iOS updates... crazy.

Thanks OP. Price matched with best buy to get apple care included as a total tech member.
What is this "total tech member" and how do we join?

Edit: just googled it

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/elec...9315977983

$199. I don't see apple care "free' but that's a nice perk if that comes with all apple products you by from Bestbuy. Can you confirm?

I ordered for warehouse pickup. Buy now think later. If I don't want it after all, I'll just never pick it up. LOL. But man, this 2012 Mini is getting unbearably slow.

These are equipped with TB4 unlike the M1 MIni - so what will I need to do to hook one of these up to my displayport - I've got an older Ultrasharp (2417) ... so I'd rather just buy a cable that goes straight from the TB4 port into my monitor which has either DP or mini-DP.

Anyone have the wisdom?

buy this right now. I went from 2012 mini to m2 pro $1300 taxed 16/512 and honestly I would've loved this computer so much more.

I definitely could've used the extra ram, tb ports, and 10 gigabit Ethernet for future proofing. Wish I had waited

Mac Mini M2 Pro has a few advantages but this is a good deal. Mini has better HDMI, Bluetooth and Wifi.

i honestly wouldn't put my chips on this computer as a long term system due to it being a gen 1 machine and the fact that m3 is likely going to be the biggest update in apple silicon history until the next major breakthrough. an M3 Max is likely going to be faster than an M1 Ultra. if you need a mac for the time being, just get the cheapest M2 mac mini and then slap on an external HDD for extended storage and wait it out for the Mac Studio w/ M3 Max
I would almost always agree with first generation tech, but this is technically an iteration of the A series chips, so it's extremely mature. And I'm stating this as a Windows user that has never purchased a MacOS device. I have a work-issued base model M1 Air that is absurdly efficient, and I doubt it will be significantly slower in 3 years.

That's not accurate at all. Samsung is about 5 years, Google is 4. And Windows 10 is supported until 2025 (10 years). Yes, Apple support is long, but don't give false info.

Samsung only transitioned to 4 recently. I have owned Samsung since Galaxy S4. Now I'm on s20.

Windows OS itself is forever but manufacturers don't really support. Even with drivers.

I am a life long PC and been android for 10 years. I just got a MacBook air and it's actually quite nice. Maybe I'm biased. I still run mostly windows and android products for customization

This has more RAM, built in gigabit, +2 x TB3 ports. I do like the updated bluetooth blue the price of a similarly specced M2 Pro is much higher.

Wish I had waited. The only thing I really regret was 16GB of RAM. I need so much more. Docker itself takes 8GB!

Thunderbolt to HDMI 2.1 (via adapter) for 4K120Hz works just fine, I use it on mine. See my prior posts in this thread.
I've been successfully running dual 32" 4k @ 144hz (Gigabyte M32U) on the M1 Max Studio using these for the past year:
