Hey there, was curious if you're running the audio machine with Logic or PT or something else? Which interface are you using, and have you seen any hiccups at all? My old Mac Pro has been updated but I'm getting the itch. If you can drop some knowledge on the video setup/workflow too, that'd be super appreciated.

We did get my wife a new MBP, so I hear you on the hub and external drives, just curious what you're using these for and if you foresee any need to upgrade anytime soon! Thanks a bunch ahead of time!m

edit: also was only asking about your interface to see if it's DSP/UA and how this handles loads of plugins if you're using them, thanks again.
- Logic
- UAD
- CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub

MacOS with native M1 code is just a whole new level of efficiency.

Non members can purchase but at a 5% premium, correct?
$60 membership is less than 5% of $1500 ($150).

I would rather say it's an ideal storage. The higher storage you keep on your laptop or phone, more proportionate junk you create being lazy to delete duplicate or unwanted data, that replicates multiple times on backup disks and added time to restore. Ultimately it keeps on increasing demand for higher and higher backup storage needs. With 1 TB Internal storage, you would need at least 6-8 TB Backup Disk

Lesser internal storage will keep you motivated to delete junk/duplicate data regularly.
I agree with you but extremely disagree at the same time, It's healthier to have much free space on the SSD for longevity and wear.

Eh? Learn to math?

10% is $150 + 5% ($75) = $225

i honestly wouldn't put my chips on this computer as a long term system due to it being a gen 1 machine and the fact that m3 is likely going to be the biggest update in apple silicon history until the next major breakthrough. an M3 Max is likely going to be faster than an M1 Ultra. if you need a mac for the time being, just get the cheapest M2 mac mini and then slap on an external HDD for extended storage and wait it out for the Mac Studio w/ M3 Max
Is this Mac Studio with M3 Max going to cost $1500?

Something tells me that it isn't. In which case your whole post is pointless.

That's why there are people who will experience the great new things vs ones forever waiting for the one coming around the corner and never experienced anything

-guy who bought m1 mini, m1 air, and mpro14 and macstudio, m2 air all at launch cuz I don't mind paying up for shiny new things. My m1 pro spec machines are so under utilized I didn't upgrade to M2 pro but I will get m3 when it's finally available.

I just sell my gear whenever I upgrade for a small loss but it's like renting the mac for a low cost.
If that's what you care about then great. Just don't pretend like you can't do your job (or watch YouTube videos, whatever it is you do with your shiny new machine) on a discontinued model.

Great deal. Probably would have jumped on this but did get the Mac mini M2 Pro a couple of weeks ago for $1050. Even that is overkill for what I'll use it for (secondary desktop), but wanted at least 16GB RAM.

You cannot. But you can buy 4TB NVMe SSD and decent TB4 enclosure and have 2.5+ GB/s read/write speed with it.

Perhaps on an SSD from 2006 or 2009 this is true, but with a modern SSD, most of us could keep the same one and it would die after we did; there's no practical limit outside pretty contrived situations.

For example, we don't hear about mass SSD failures on older hardware.

M2 Pro Mac mini vs M1 Max Mac Studio
Bear in mind it's comparing the higher end M2 Pro mini (not the $1299/$1199 model) in this video. And the pricing he quotes for the Studio, of course, is list price, rather than the 25% off that this deal represents. When you compare $1500 Studio and $1199 M2 Pro mini, the tables flip and the Studio is a good bit faster (at some things), plus with double the RAM, etc. etc. etc.

If this were available when I got my M2 Pro mini at $1199, I would have had to really consider the options here. it's a good jump up in some areas.

Well, I would argue that 32GB models nowadays are still targeted towards professional work rather than the casual home usage. While 512GB may be enough for some use cases, it is definitely very low for anything related to media. Heck, for example, the single RAW image from full frame or medium format cameras may easily consume more than100MB. Not even mentioning 4K video editing.

On the other hand, this is the desktop so you can easily use external storage with it. Though, 32GB/512GB is the weird combination.
