If I ever win the lottery, I won't tell anybody. But there will be signs.

Purchased this TV around Super Bowl and I'm very very happy with the purchase. I have an OLED 77" as well and although OLED has a superior picture, the pure size of this TV makes the viewing experience incomparable. Watching NBA playoffs on this has been amazing and streaming 4K movies is wonderful.

Shipping a 98 inch tv seems like a real PITA

It does have HDMI 2.1 on 2 ports.
According to the first post, it has only HDMI 2.0

The post is wrong. You can check the specs on TCLs website for yourself. The pics on Amazon show them clearly as well.

I'm sorry ths fair price is too expensive for you. Maybe you could fit a 42" Westinghouse into your budget, sit 6 inches from the screen, and pretend you bought this?
82 inchs for 1k, is 16 inches really worth 3k more?

40% larger viewing area. $3k will be a fairer price for now.

Puts in perspective how much of a smoking deal the 85" Samsung QN90B was at sub $1700 price point last week.

This is really a niche item. Whether or not it's worth the value, you have to be:

a) In the market for a screen this big. 75-85" is not the same as 98-100" - Some people want the biggest screen they can get their hands on.
b) Ask yourself, is there is another 98-100" TV on the market, at this price point? (The answer is no.)

In every TCL deal that's posted, there's always a bunch of haters who come off as low key racist with their unsubstantiated claims. I've had this TV for about two weeks. I also have two other TCLs going 5 years strong. There's nothing inferior about any of them. One of the tools the Mini-LED and OLED folks like to use as a benchmark is a starfield test like this one [youtube.com]. The point is, the better brightness/contrast/local dimming, the more stars you're supposed to see. I don't have a baseline or OLED to compare against but I see a lot of them [imgur.com].

See the reviews from the pros:
Andrew Robinson [youtube.com]
B the Installer 98R754 vs LG 97" OLED [youtube.com]

TCL sold the second most TVs globally in 2022. They manufacture their own TVs, in their own plants, using their own parts. So let's stop acting like they're some fly-by-night. I swear some people's heads are gonna explode like Clayton Bigsby entered the chat when they find out that's a TCL panel in the 98" Samsung. laugh out loud

If you have money to burn, and need a tv this big, and a projector won't work for you, this is the most reasonably priced one.

I'm sticking to my 77" sony oled until larger sets get more reasonable.

This guy has no idea what he's talking about. He must be very confused. This is a good TV I will say you can find a QLED TV with similar specs in the 70-inch range for only $700 but this is a behemoth of a TV. HDMI 2.1 VRR works great. I've had no issues with it honestly. I didn't buy it. Let that be known. It was bought for my workplace to use in a conference room. We still use it to watch movies and play games on. We play smash Bros on it all the time. Honestly I was surprised how well this giant ass TV handles 1080p content. While it may be a good TV, I'll say it's not worth the price. I would have never paid that much personally. Your way better off buying a short throw projector. or a 77" LG A2 OLED for $1800 You're better off buying the OLED that's slightly smaller for less than than half the price the price. In summary, I would never buy this TV but it's not a bad TV. it's just very very overpriced. It has a specific use case mostly just to fill the wall space in a home theater. One thing that you should do is compare the price of this 98-in TV to other 98-in TVs and you'll see there's a giant markup on basically all of them.
Oof. You jumped the shark when you said A2.
