Of course for some people it may be more important to save a few bucks but do it at your own risk and don't tell other people it is harmless. Using Napster was harmless until suddenly the record companies started suing users for millions.
If these were basically "stolen" from Microsoft (which they almost certainly are), they do have the possibility of being revoked at any point...whether that is tomorrow or three decades from now.
Really the main personal debate over whether you should buy it is simply if the cheap price makes sense to you regardless of if/when it gets revoked/deactivated, and if you don't mind technically having an illegal license.

However, if a European company was getting rid of a bunch of used older computers with MS Office pre-installed, law changes in Europe said that those licenses could be reused, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe the buyer of that used hardware refurbishes them, de-installs the Microsoft Office, resells the clean used hardware and has dozens (or hundreds) of leftover codes of previously installed, now de-installed, codes. Might be similar happenings in some other countries.
No one is saying they were "stolen". They are just codes obtained through not intended original terms of purchase, such as student use in India, an MSDN Developer paying monthly fees gets a large bank of free (not-for-resale) install codes for many MS software apps, etc. Not "stolen" but repurposed outside of their original use, and if a situation arises during a re-install that Microsoft becomes aware of the repurposed use, it will be taken out of use. It won't be an individual making that decision, it'll be a Microsoft algorthm.
Most importantly, we all agree that they are definitely not "lifetime software licenses", though we may not have a problem. Saying that "we never had a problem doing it before" shouldn't reassure anyone. That's like saying that "I got away with robbery 3 times so it must be fine". There are many instances on Reddit, Trust Pilot, etc., of people commenting that they had problems months later, or when doing a major O/S or h/w upgrade, upgrading a system drive, etc.
If anyone is 100% convinced that their $3-$5 code is 100% the same as one purchased through legitimate means, for legitimate use, call (or e-mail) Microsoft and give them your activation code and tell them how you purchased it. Crickets.
Lastly, it's amazing how businesses are artificially propping up the legitimacy of these $5-$40 install-code deals - otherwise, there's little difference between this $5 code and a $5 code purchased off eBay! "SD" isn't endorsing it. "StackSocial" on those deals isn't saying it's 100% legitimate; they're just the Marketplace site. Yet deal finders get so excited when it appears on these brand sites. These codes are almost always available on either in-country or out-of-country Marketplace sites.
Something about it all feels sketchy, when you enter the key in the official office.com/setup site it gives the same token not found error. I wanted to try to find a way to download the Office 2021 image directly from MS, I know the link provided is hosted on a microsoft.com site, but the .IMG file is not signed by Microsoft. Inside of it, the setup.exe and so on do look to be signed by Microsoft so I did install it on a secondary PC as a test.
I emailed support, asking for a refund on 2 of the 3 licenses that I did not use...curious if they will be responsive or not, I did buy the extra protection nonsense against my better judgement.
