I am running this CPU and a Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Ultra. I only have a RTX3060Ti but I was able to play DIV with almost maxed settings at 2k. I had 32GB of RAM but I think DIV beta had a memory leak cause it was using almost 29GB so I upgraded to 64GB of RAM so we'll see if they fixed that leak or glitch with the beta happening this weekend!

If I could justify, I would purchase this kit for one of my other desktops I have. Highly recommend! I was a little leery of the bending bracket this generation of CPU's have... so I purchased this plate from amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1 to help support the CPU cooler. If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about, there have been tests by incredibly talented people that show thermal paste and cooling is uneven with stock brackets on this 12th and 13th generation of motherboards. So certain parts of your CPU may get much hotter than they should be getting... possibly reducing performance or even lifespan. Adding that 3rd party bracket will allow the heatsink to sit properly and flush and not bend or warp any parts of the socket.. keeping everything uniform.
I use a closed loop liquid cooled cooler for all my builds.... even though I don't overclock, but I feel it is more efficient than air.

Here is a link to my hardware via CPUz

Yes but why would you want to? Just buy a new motherboard.
I would have to sell the extra CPU
I wish there was a good deal on just the LGA1700 motherboard with WiFi.

Yes, according to: https://pangoly.com/en/compatibil...z690-a/cpu. It's just that KF processor does not support integrated GPU.
Thanks

Question: Is the following ~$20 air cooler (Thermalright AssassinX120 SE) good enough for the 12700k if not overclocking?

I'm trying to build some PCs for my wife and myself. Would this be good enough for like 5+ years?

You are looking at around $200. Do you have a microcenter nearby?

It depends on what you plan to use it for. I have been using my i7-4790k (2015?) with my gtx 1080. I recently bought a rtx 3080 and now my CPU is the bottleneck. In reality, the i7-4790k is plenty fast for normal uses.

It depends on your need. Is it for gaming? If so, you can see how many more fps if you upgrade through this website:

Should I be looking for a better deal than this in the next couple of weeks? Or is this as good as it is going to get?

I am contemplating this deal or 12790k deal (https://slickdeals.net/f/16649492-intel-core-i9-12900k-cpu-asrock-z690-extreme-lga-1700-ddr4-motherboard-bundle-404-98-free-shipping?src=rcm_brand). However, the motherboard for the 12790k deal only supports ddr4.

Good find. It's certainly prudent to avoid MSI until Intel provides a solution to work around the leaked private keys. For example, only allow known MSI firmware hash signed with existing private keys while allowing MSI to register new public keys for new firmware.

SD strikes again. I have been thinking about a cheap upgrade to my Ryzen 1700 NAS/Plex server that will do hardware transcoding. Instead of spending $50 on video card off ebay, I opt for this deal. $600 later after 64gb of memory and a 2TB SSD and I am set!
