Does anyone know how this compares to ST1511T and ST1521S? Those 2 only come with a 2.5ah battery vs the 4ah with ST1523S but not finding much for specs.

The 1511T is telescoping and aluminum. The one in this ad is carbon fiber and does not telescope. The CF one is only ounces lighter but I'm sure it is heavier with the bigger battery. Not sure what else is different. I bought the 1511T for the telescoping option, but found it only was the same length as the other trimmer at full length. You can only adjust it shorter than the other trimmer.

I have an Ego String Trimmer (AKA weedeater). Mine is a plain PITA. It is too long too heavy, and has no provision to use it as an edger. I have old 20V Black & Decker ST's that are way ahead of any Ego design... IMHO

Lol. You can literally turn it upside down to use it as an edger.

Don't you mean sideways? And I think his point is that it's a bit heavy to do it safely.

No, I hold mine closer to upside down than sideways. How does the weight make it less safe?

Not if you don't have the hand or arm strength.
My mother doesn't, so she keeps plugging away with her mighty mini weight Worx.

I've used it upside down as an edger the past couple of years, but I also use a shoulder strap, so that might make the difference.

Hard pass. Buy the ST1511T instead for $199.

- The 2.5 Ah battery is better balanced than the 4 Ah.
- It has two speed modes then a variable speed trigger within that mode ("slow" 3,500-4,500 and "fast" 4000-5,800). This only does the "fast" mode; 3,500-3,999 is useful around more delicate things.
- The carbon fiber is 0.2 lbs lighter, which is more than offset by the 4 Ah battery (1.9 lbs heavier).
- Telescopic shaft for short people, and rotating handle to turn it into a poor-man's edger (or to match a slope's edge).

The ST1511T is the latest generation in the Aluminum line. This is the older generation in the carbon fiber line. The current gen is the carbon fiber is technically the ST1623T but since they only sell it with "Line IQ" which gets mixed reviews (namely for excessive trimmer-line waste), there's no exact 1:1 (plus it is $299 anyway).

People WAY overspend for carbon fiber as if the pole breaking is a common issue with string trimmers as opposed to motor and or button/switch failures. Whatever you buy, it will be long dead & buried by the time the freaking pole snaps.

Is this better than the multi tool with edger?

Based on my experience with both Ryobi and Ego tools, I'd say that the Ego yard tools are clearly better.
