Oh these "deals" again...

If you play badminton even somewhat frequently, like once every one or two weeks, you want to spend more money on these rackets. The difference in weight and handling is very noticeable.

Otherwise, if plan to buy them, use them once a year and don't care about the sports part of it, ignore this comment
just because this is something you dont partake in, doesn't mean there isnt a community of people do.

i played with a team a while ago and can also agree that these 3 piece rackets are for one a year maytbe 20 minutes of play, if that. if anyone is actually interested in the sport, badminton is typically played indoors, with a net and court, and with rackets that tend to be one piece, made of fibreglass, require you to string it yourself (by taking it to someone with the right tools because most times you want to select your own string and tension) and cost a bit more.

i would look up the brand Yonex. the lower price range is roughly $40 and can go up to $130. brands like wilson and franklin are for light/casual/outdoor where people dont care about wind (yes this is a generalized statement as wilson does have higher end ones but for the most part, they aim for the casual audience). on amazon there are a lot of knock off brands but Yonex and Senston is legit. If its above $40ish, its worth looking into.

Do you guys have more in-depth resources for racket reviews and comparisons (ie. yonex vs victor)? It's quite hard to find any english resources on the subject as it isn't as popular in the US as Tennis is. Yonex alone has a huge collection of rackets that makes it hard to compare tier wise. I wish there was a tennis-warehouse equivalent where you can order 5 badminton rackets to try and compare before actually sticking to one you like or before dropping $200 on a nice competitive one for gym club play.

Don't bother with these, the rackets didn't even last one casual session at the park. Handle came loose on on, strings popped on the other.
At $5 per, seems almost like they're designed to be disposable - thinking of those people that go to the park or beach to have fun, drink too much and leave half the stuff they brought with them lying in the sand when they depart.

Not too brokenhearted to say 'Dang, forgot my five dollar racket at the beach.'.

What is a good racket that won't break the bank for a kid very interested that plays constantly?
Yonex Nanoray or Carbonex 8000 plus. These runs about $40 - $60, not expensive at all.

I picked up this set earlier this spring. Worked great for my intended use!

Namely, swatting those big carpenter bees that hover around our back wood deck.
Which if left unchecked, bore neat little 5/8" holes in joists.

"Ping!" ... my second all-time favorite sound!

Very informative. I love watching this sport.👍👍👍

On the flipside, those of us that keep an eye out for these at garage sales and flea markets might find $5 a pop a reasonable expenditure for carpenter bee extermination tools. Nothing more satisfying than the 'TWANG!' sound generated by a cheap aluminum badminton racket separating one of those nasty little bugger's head from torso. 😁
Oops, I missed your post and added my own carpenter bee reference later. But yes, in total agreement on that satisfying sound! I consider a badminton racquet more of a homeowner maintenance tool vs.a sports item. Not that badminton is bad, and it's certainly a lot quieter than say, pickleball!

like someone mentioned above, $40-60 yonex rackets will easily last you a lifetime (you will need to change strings and grip, but the racket will last forever). It'll work fine for anything other than competition or professional level of playing. Just make sure you get a one piece racket. Pay attention to where the shaft meets the head: if you can see reinforcement, stay away from it. One piece graphite rackets will not have visible reinforcement for the head, but will be significantly stronger.

For kids look for the "smashminton" same brand as this deal. Short handle.

Yonex and Victor are both great brands. They have charts like this one [badminton-coach.co.uk] to help you decide from their dozens of racket choices.

I'll second on the One Piece design.
The cheap ones that are usually not one piece, and the connection part will get loose pretty soon (maybe after a few uses), and it basically becomes a trash.
I've used those cheap ones before and no fun at all. Later I got a cheap Yonex and are happy.

Btw, I'm play Badminton very infrequently with my son, probably few times per month, on my neighborhood road in front my house when there is no traffic.laugh out loud

both of my kids are taking lessons with $45 Yonex Astrox Lite 21i rackets. My wife uses a DNA (small local company, racket made in Taiwan, full graphite) Nano Edge 800. I am still using my 25 year old Yonex Isometric Swingpower 900 from my high school days. All 3 rackets are around 100 grams (weight of 2 normal size Snicker bars) stringed and with overgrip . I have played games with all 3 rackets, and do not find a noticeable difference. String tension makes a much more noticeable difference to me than what little balance difference there exists among these 3.

As far as my skill level, I will probably place somewhere between the 60-70 percentile, at gym level competitions. Mind you, this is in Southern California, where Asians make up 80% of the population at these competitions. I'm far from being the best, but can hold my own.

they sell badminton rackets at dollar tree for $1.25 each and a 4 pack of birdies for 1.25.
This amazon "deal" would cost about $3.75 at my local dollar trees
