Absolute drivel, and likely ill-intentioned misinformation. Even the 8GB model is more than enough for lots more than "web browsing and basic office work"; this 16GB is good enough for the large majority of power users.

Great deal! For those of us who prefer to "bring their own storage," the 16GB/256GB would have been better (assuming the price would have been proportionately lower), but at this price it's fine and allows you to use it right away w/o needing to worry about an external storage solution right away.

I'm typing this on my $500 base M2 purchased from Costco last month (currently hooked up to two 27" 1440 displays). I'm a looong time PC user (the last time I touched a mac was in the 90's). The learning curve to MacOS was a bit rough, but I'm slowly getting used to the new OS. It's hard to believe so much power is packed into such a small (and cheap) package.

This thing will stream 4k (2x speed) YouTube without a single stutter. It is silent, despite the active cooling.

I'm almost surely going to pick up a second unit during Costco's sale. I'll probably have one unit permanently tied to my TV (for YouTube, Steam, CloneHero, Chrome, etc). And another in my office. For my office computer, I'm tempted to upgrade to the "Pro" model, but I'm likely deluding myself that I need the extra power relative to the $500 base.

For anything more than web browsing and basic office work it needs to be 32gb and 1TB SSD. Wish retailers would sell higher spec ones, only way is though apple.
16 GB is enough for most people including programmers.

On another note, while modern MacBooks tend break in 3-4 years, according to the techs at the Apple Store all of the desktops tend to last a long time

I wouldn't touch a dev machine with less than 24 gigs of RAM, preferably 32. That's just me.

Laptops run into issues 4 years down the line due to bad battery and dusty fans and apple makes it impossible to replace without a headache. These desktops are solid and will easily last 7-8 years before it's no longer supported.

Feels like apple is really flushing out their m2 inventory for the m3 in June. If it's gonna be 3nm, it'll be wild.
Nah...Mac minis don't get yearly updates.

An exorbitant amount of money for a computer in 2023.No upgrading it. No repairing it.
Consider a Dell Micro Form Factor and free yourself from apple.

Amazon is matching this price: https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Desk...0BSHFS6XX/
Slight difference, Costco's version has the 10Gbe Ethernet NIC, Amazon is selling the basic 1 Gbit.

It's a $100 "upgrade" on Apple's site. It's also not an upgrade you can do later, unless you get an external thunderbolt to 10Gbe interface like the Sonnet SOLO10G-TB3 ($249)

Of course, most people don't have a fast 10Gbe network in their home... But the mini with the 10Gbe nic can do 2.5, 5, or 10 gigabit networking (use jumbo frames!)

Are you sure that's the case? The model number is the exact same on both sites (MNH73LL/A). I think the Costco description is just stock description that says 'Gigabit or 10Gb Ethernet'. That's because the Mac mini can be configured to 10Gb Ethernet (albeit only via Apple). The Amazon description also says configurable to 10Gb Ethernet.

I do not think the models are any different between Costco or Amazon. Apple has only a few stock pre-built models they sell via third-parties.

Yes return it. Future proof. Apple only keeps products for about 10 years from release date before making them obsolete.

Thanks for agreeing with me when trying to disagree. Also Ive owned y iMac 10 years and yes that's about their cutoff time before they make it obsolete and stop providing upgrades.
