I would be careful installing something like this in the same area as a gas hot water heater (CO poisoning). The older tech one-hose units created a vacuum which made them inefficient. These dual hose ones are better, but I have not heard that they do not create a small vacuum. If a vacuum occurs, it will suck air from the water heater exhaust pipe back into your area.
A relative is going to give us a single hose Keystone brand 12000 BTU unit to test out on the 2nd story of our colonial home. We do have a gas hot water heater which is located in the basement. Will we need to worry about CO poisoning in our situation? We may have to end up going with a window unit as I'm not optimistic that the single hose unit will work well for us. It's free to try so why not as long as we don't get CO poisoning...

Went Friday and all they had was lots of the Midea window ACs....no other window or any portable ACs....but tons of fan type stuff.

Online the delivery times are all 3-5 business days out with the Midea being 3 and the others 4 and 5. Not sure if that helps figuring out if it's in-stock other than calling.

With $100 off, the unit is $390 in store, so it is CHEAPER than in 2021.

I think they operate the same. Same BTU. Same Inverter tech.

I like the Danby aesthetics better.

I saw the sale in store the first day $389.99 kicked in. Also saw the Midea-U but my horizontal sliding windows in living room had a very loud Hisense Dual Hose. I ended up buying this and will report if any problems come up. So far, no water tank errors or the unit being under-powered yet. I did notice though that on a colder day outside, the thermostat is affected and under-reports the indoor temperature sometimes.

What do you like about the midea?
He is referring to the other Midea 4-in-1 model which also has the heat function.
This currently is available via Costco Direct program.

IDK truly know. That's what I have read recently, and it all makes sense given the negatives of a single hose unit in causing negative pressure vacuum.

Most homes have vents in the basement to pull in fresh air, so I would think it is minimal impact, but definitely check to make sure there are low level vents and that you have a CO monitor in your home.

I would guess that if you wanted to test it....
1. Install the single-hose AC unit in the upper floor window.
2. Put the CO monitor near the hot water heater. (or on each floor)
3. Check to see if there is enough suction to trigger the monitor.*

*you can test the monitor first near the vent to ensure that it is working and then you will definitely know if the portable AC is counteracting the vent.

Just incredible paranoia from someone most of us never heard of posting one comment that is pure speculation. The thread basically got hijacked by nonsense.

In same boat. I had returned one in the past from different brand because their window kit was much shorter for my 58" window. Please confirm this will fit 58" window without purchase anything else.

After a few min of research I found out the window kit will only fit up to 54". So this will not work with my 58" high sliding window. If anyone can confirm this would be great. Thank you.
I think it will work. If you watch the Danby video on YT re: installation, you will see that the gentleman pulls the hose up over his head!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P...Appliances

Lastly, you could gerry rig it if the hose is indeed too short. Find a milk crate (stationary supply section) and place the AC on top of that. You can use a plastic wet shoe/boot tray under the milk crate in case there is a leak. Or buy a square washing machine plastic tray (overkill).

There were at least 10 in Hayward and Fremont on Monday. I haven't been to SSF Airport Costco in a while. Sale is over though.
