Use "Samsung Card-UFD Authentication Utility" to verify. If you got a fake, return it before Amazon's return window is closed. It's 1 month or 30 days. BestBuy only has 14 days to return.

Bestbuy is more reliable than Amazon

It looks like Samsung thinks the entire world runs on Windows. No love for Linux Frown
Still typical of many companies, unfortunately. The world does run on the Linux kernel but desktop OS market share remains low.

Too OT for more on that here but suffice it to say Mint ("loving it" in my sig) is the top candidate for Windows replacement (IMO).

I don't have this particular combo, but I *DO* have the reader. It's much faster than anything else I've used. Tested a handful of SDCards recently with this reader and it made quite a R/W difference, even getting very close to advertised speed(s) in most cases. Solid reader IMO, making this a darn good deal (if you need one).

This is what caught my attention too, I think these will start coming standard sooner or later.

$18.12 after tax and best buy reward $5 which came in email for unknown reason. Bought $13 earbuds a few years ago. The reader is not usb 3.x, i assume. I'd rather pay $5-8 for 3.0 reader from ebay.

It is indeed a usb3.x reader and faster than any of my others, both higher end and cheap junk. Try it out and see for yourself if in doubt.

I bought it from both Amazon and Bestbuy. Tested it using a 3rd party software by filling small files until it's full. The last 20GB (out of 238GB) cann't be used. This happened on both cards. For the large part, it's still genuine. Read/write speed matches with the advertised.

Really? I thought 2.0. Didn't see specs listed anywhere. If it's fast then i'll be ok with it.

Here is one reviewer's comments [amazon.com] about the reader. Nothing too scientific/technical, just their own basic R/W tests using the Samsung reader vs other means. Actually parallels my own testing months ago, so I must concur.

Curious to know when did Amazon start selling these microSD cards bundled w/ the USB card reader? I avoided buying the Amazon's adapter-less microSD cards after Xmas in favor of Best Buy's offerings since BB sold some that were bundled w/ the card reader.

I already have too many microSD cards stockpiled from years past, but the new USB reader and the $5 coupon for random Best Buy members made me pull the trigger. I don't see how else I would spend $5 there since I rarely shop there.

Beware of any USB readers you get from eBay. I have a couple and they are pure junk, throwing data errors all the time. Hopefully this one is reliable.

USB2 vs USB3 isn't really the limiting factor. UHS-I sdxc standard only supports up to 104 MB/s on the sd interface. To get higher people were supposed to upgrade to UHS-II which has extra data pins.

For whatever reason takeup of UHS:II has been slow so vendors started using DDR208 which uses fhe UHS-I interface and bumps up the clock and data rates.

Not all USB reader/writer adapters have support for DDR208. Samsung usb adapter does so it can reach the data rates Samsung claims.

If you stick the pro plus sdxc in a reader or device that only supports UHS-I without the unofficial DDR208 extensions, the interface would limit the card to around 104 MB/s even though the card was capable of more.

I wonder how many people don't know this and just claim they got fake samsungs when their benchmarks don't hit 160/120. I have gotten plenty of these from Amazon and they have all been legit.

My simple way to tell fake from real is look at the side cut and see if the underlying material is white or black. The Pro Plus i have gotten are all white. I have read some people claim the forgers don't want to spend the extra few pennies to match the material so they just take black sdxc's and print their forgeries.

I didn't know i'm just a typical dumb consumer user. I order from amazon or best buy, if good enough for 4k video and the price is good, i buy.
