Updates aren't just limited to the year. If you purchase this, you will get exactly the features available at the time of purchase and never anything more.

Which is just fine for me personally, I last bought C1 3 years ago and they haven't released enough compelling features for me to upgrade yet. So overall I'm saving money over Adobe. Maybe next year C1 will have some great features that I'll need to upgrade for. Although the smart adjustments and grouped culling features are very tempting.

This deal is totally worth it, especially for the hobbyist who may not need the latest and greatest all the time. Buy it, wait 1-2 years, and then upgrade again if there are compelling new features. Way better than committing to pay Adobe $10 every single month for the rest of your photographic life just to be able to tweak some highlights.

I've been a professional photographer for over 13 years and, over the last year, I can tell you that Lightroom & Photoshop have done some amazing updates far beyond "tweaking some highlights". My workflow has improved dramatically saving me so much time.

Same here. I moved my photography business off Lightroom after they ditched perpetual license because I don't need a other monthly subscription and use smugmug for online storage and storefront.

Capture One has been solid for me when these go on sale.

I also use Lightroom CC as primary photo backup of my collection with secondary being a hard drive I update a few times a year. For that, the cost is pretty good.

I don't see online backup as part of the feature set of Capture One. I do see online collaboration but that doesn't seem to be the same.

That's definitely fair, 1TB of storage along with Lightroom is a good value at $10 a month. Personally I use other cloud backup services so that doesn't have value to me, but I can see the appeal of having it integrated like that. And I don't deny that Lightroom is arguably better than C1 either!

I use ACDSee ultimate. Can anyone comment on how they compare?

This is really great for colorblind people like me.

Here is a link to a before and after from using this software. [memetemplate.in]

Solid software. I do corporate photography and this is what I use for my Fujifilm cameras. The software has never frozen up once during a photoshoot event (I tether the camera to my laptop). One of my photoshoots last fall was over 150 people. In terms of editing photos, I've probably only used 5% of its capabilities (eg if there's something you need to fix on the photo, more than likely it will be able to).

Two different products. Acdsee is if you want to run a catalog and archive stuff in a meaningful way. And then they offer editing. Where this is Editing foremost.

I remember the good old days where you could just type 40 into the coupon code section and save 40%

Capture One is a nice program and a superior RAW editor to Adobe and it's still what I use, but Adobe has really pushed past them in the past few years with their subject selection tools, which capture one doesn't have at all. To get the most out of capture one you need a tablet and pen, where adobe just has the built in, excellent subject selection tools

Capture One has released some "AI Tools" that don't work well at all in my experience. Their smart adjustment tool is complete garbage, even in a studio environment with the same exact settings / flash setup and power it would give really inconsistent results.

Also, CO has a lot of really annoying bugs and issues. If you try to bring them up, the "support" just tries to MK Ultra you into thinking you're doing something wrong, when it worked before whatever update screwed it up lol

I also really appreciate tethered sessions.

mm the software I really enjoyed using the most for tweaking photos when I trialed some during the holidays, was dxo photolab! The only thing was there was no cataloging functionality at all. But the noise reduction it uses is insane!

Lightroom & Photoshop are the STANDARD when it comes to photo editing software! If you ever want to work as a professional photographer you better know how to use them. Adobe has really improved the tethering feature and it works just as good as capture 1. I used to be completely against subscription plans but I've tried all the "pay once" apps and always come back to Lightroom & Photoshop!
