Buy another 20 bags when the sale is active, and before you leave the store, just return using your old receipt.

You probably got a lot better deal, too. 30 yards of this stuff would be over $800.

I have rubber mulch around my pool. I wouldn't ever use rubber mulch in an actual garden bed. Wood mulch biodegrades and enriches the soil over time. Rubber mulch just leeches chemicals into the ground and is messy. I hate it.

None of then were leaking but in general most of them were slightly wet and there are tiny particles that fall from holes which if you leave in the car with windows closed will smell like manure. I am airing out my car as the smell lingers.

Eh, most annoyances are caused by irregular twigs and branches that can be shredded smaller. Larger pieces of wood can have better uses (poles, firewood etc) so only cutting/slicing is needed for those, be it with chainsaw or reciprocating saw or some such. Shredder doesn't have to be Fargo style.

Every year you prune, shred the twigs and branches, and you not only you have new mulch to top off the old one, but you clean up the yard. Yes, they decompose faster, but that's not necessarily a bug, instead it is a feature, as they turn into soil organic matter to feed the plants (for free.)

I bought the chipper when I had much more property and I was tired of hauling brush to a section in the woods and it taking up so much space. That was also when I was culling a lot of ash trees (they were all killed by the EAB and I had a wood burning stove).

I've since moved to a smaller property with relatively few trees and only broken out the chipper for one purpose - to size reduce bulk leaves and simultaneously blow them under a fence. It worked very well for that although the leaf bulk tends to bridge the hopper so someone feeds while someone stirs.

This. The mulch smells like manure and the bags leaked brown water all over the cargo mat in my car.

It's crazy expensive, that's the main drawback. Other than that, it doesn't break down. That's good when it's where you want it, but bad when it inevitably gets where you don't want it, like a lawn.
I have rubber mulch from 5 years ago. Still looks good and doesn't break down. No splinters if you fall and have kids. No worries about termites either. The only thing is you might smell the rubber if hot initially, but it dissipates. Color stays. Not biodegradable however, this is a way to recycle tires.

Grabbed 20 bags of black today. It's more brown than black, all bags were very wet. Only had one bag full of white mold, and found a few chunks of glass, few rocks, and a long green plastic strap. It's basically what you expect for $2/bag. I actually had my truck half loaded when I realized I was loading Scott's brand instead, oops. Had to unload and grab the correct stuff. Watched a few people loading this wet smelly stuff in the back seats of their cars, yuck.

My local HD gets these towards the end of winter every year and they sit until early spring. Rain gets trapped in the bags and they become very moldy and smell 5X worse than the manure.

Check with your city or county. They may be offering free wood chips. You just have to get your own bags, fill it and get it home.

that would be 400+ bags. why would you rather have bags?
Done it both ways, bags are way easier to move around.

Agreed, but if someone needs 30 yards I would hope someone would have some sort of yard equipment to move mulch around to all the beds.

Umm… try again. I posted a link to better mulch (imho) that you could get for free…. delivered. If that not an appropriate comment on a slickdeals page for mulch, idk what is. Cheers!
