Saying you're an early adopter is a stretch if you're only on year 3. You must be doing something wrong if you're having battery issues already . I am on year 7 and my batteries degraded to like 50%. Still using all my original batteries the came with the tools.

I am an early EGO adopter (got them when Home Depot had the contract with them). I have 5 of their tools and 4 of their batteries. I am on year 3 and all my batteries are turning into paperweights. My 5ah hold like 30% of their original charge, and my 2.5ah literally give me 15 minutes or less on like my leaf blower.

The tools work great. The convenience of electric is super. But I am mad I am going to have to drop $500 already on some new batteries. There is no way I would even come close to $500 of gas at this point.

I'm not saying don't go electric/EGO, just be aware that you will be replacing these batteries MUCH FASTER than you anticipate. Don't go electric because you think it will be cheaper in the long run - it won't be.

I don't the the lone batteries are really a deal unless you already have all the tools you want? You can get the 765 blower for $300 with a 5ah battery for example, and that blower is pretty beast. Or a 650 blower for 220 or so.

I have no experience with this capacity, but at least for the lower capacity ones over heating is a problem.

To give some background - I have a 7.5Ah battery that came with my Ego mower, and three 2.5Ah batteries that came with various tools. I have a big lawn and the 7.5Ah by itself doesn't suffice. I had figured that the three 2.5Ah batteries combined will give me as much juice as the 7.5Ah. But it's not even close. It's not a problem when the grass is short and dry. But if the grass is even slightly wet or even slightly tall, all three 2.5Ah batteries overheat extremely fast on the mower. I barely make one back and forth lap on the lawn that the lower capacity batteries are done for the day. Once they overheat I have to wait for the larger battery to finish charging again. The point is - I've been disappointed with lower capacity ego batteries. On paper 2.5x3 =7.5. But practically it doesn't work the same way. I don't get 100% more with the 3 batteries - maybe 20% more. I do wonder whether in that respect the 4Ah will truly give 53% of the 7.5Ah battery, or whether it's practical capacity will be reduced drastically like the 2.5Ah ones.
My 7.5Ah battery is 2 years old (just started 3rd summer) and with it, I can run my mower 30-35 mins and if the grass is too tall or wet, my mower does not even run for 25 mins. Not sure how long my mower will run with this 4ah battery. So just bought another 7.5ah battery for 300$ Frown

I have 3 EGO tools;hedge trimmer, lawnmower, and weedwacker, along with 3 batteries. I*n my experience the tolls work well, but he batteries suck. Only one is still working. They don't last long, and very expensive to replace. Customer service is poor from this CHINESE owned company.

Sorry, that's tools, not tolls. (maybe trolls!)

2017 was my first EGO tool. I had a 5ah for 2 years that I returned under warranty and got a replacement because of the battery drain issue I was seeing (EGO was good about the return, no issues there). During the pandemic I bought more EGO tools/batteries and now is when I'm seeing the same exact issues of why I RMA'd my first battery. Year 3 is the breaking point when it drops
I got exactly the same problem with EGO batteries. Their life span is really short.

Learning how to solder and 14 18650 cells would be way cheaper.

Ego batteries manufacturing was changed in August 2021 since then they have gone downhill because the company has decided to cut corners not saying it's right but if the company will not warranty your batteries as they try to get out of it in every way possible the best thing to do is purchase a tool with the battery swap the battery and return it

I am a huge EGO fan, but when I noticed my 2 year old refurb EGO snowblower has issues running. (Found out that the resettable fuse goes into maintenance mode often, and that the capacity is 70% compared to the newer 5 Amp Hours I have) I tried working with EGO support, but they where no help. So moving forward, I'm only gunna buy lawn care equipment from Costco. You can buy a blower, string trimmer, and lawn mower, with a 8 year battery warranty, that's alot better than EGO's 3 year warranty...

Same experience for me. Bought the leaf blower for my dad bc he was starting to have difficulty trying to pull start a gas leaf blower. He initially loved it, but by year 3 the runtime is too short to be useful. Tool lived in his basement, not garage. I'm sure he wasn't careful about how it was charged, but he has Milwaukee tools which are older that are treated the same way and still work great.

I am starting to get really tempted by the aftermarket Ego batteries

$130 for a highly rated (well reviewed) 5.0 Ah battery is… maybe not the worst idea I've ever had.

We'll see.

My 2 and 2.5's still seem to carry a decent charge. (As does my 10.0 that came with my mower.)
I orders 7.5 and 5.0 Ruzixt batteries and within 6 months the 7.5 only shows as being 40% charged when checking the meter. It seems to last about half as long as my Ego 7.5 that came with my mower two years ago. I'm sticking with Ego brand for the longer warranty from now on. One of these weekends, I'm going to disassemble the Ruzixt 7.5, 5.0, and an old Ego 2.0 to cobble together as many good cells as possible in the 7.5 and then toss the rest.

Ego user for about 4 years here, I went from a huge fan to don't care for them much but I already had/have a bunch of tools and batteries. Started with the blower and loved it, but I've since had mixed results. The mower sucked, bad, I have an 1/8th of an acre of Zoysia in my front yard and a 5.0 amp hour battery couldn't get 1/3 of that done without crapping out and it's not like I let the grass get too long either. The 18in chainsaw would literally make like 2 cuts and then the battery would start flashing red. It was just too much draw for the battery, so I got rid of it too. I have the carbon fiber string trimmer and edger and I like those and the blower, but I've had 2 batteries die so far and 1 charger die. It sounds like maybe I've had bad luck, but for me I'm no longer a fan. Like others I have some Ryobi tools and a ton of DeWalt tools and many 5+ year old well worn 5.0 amp hour 20v batteries are still running strong while these Ego batteries had failures in the first 2 years and overheated constantly for me in the mower and chainsaw. I'll probably try and keep these going a few years longer, but if you're not already in the Ego ecosystem, be warned.

I feel like this is a good deal if your in need of a battery and already in the eco system

With that said I made the switch to ego about 6 years ago. I like the products but I have had 4-5 batteries go bad. I get about 3 years out of one. If I could go back I would not have made the switch.

I had a similar experience. 4 different batteries lasting 3 to 4 years. I am thinking about COSTCO's 8 year battery warranty on greenworks, but hate to buy all the equipments again. No problems with the EGO tools, just batteries.

Question for the ego owners:
I have an early model mower and it worked great when I first got it. Now I have some issues:

1) pressing the handle still moves the mower forward, but only at a base speed. The speed gauge no longer works and regardless of what setting it is on (fastest setting down to the slowest), it only moves at the base speed.
2) it isn't doing the best job cutting the grass anymore. Also terrible striping and coverage patterns. I bought a new ego mower blade, the 'high lift' one meant for creating for air flow and lifting the grass into the bag, and it helped a TINY bit, but still not that impressive.

Is my mower battery being old having an impact on performance? Should I consider getting a new mower next year?
