Saying you're an early adopter is a stretch if you're only on year 3. You must be doing something wrong if you're having battery issues already . I am on year 7 and my batteries degraded to like 50%. Still using all my original batteries the came with the tools.

I am an early EGO adopter (got them when Home Depot had the contract with them). I have 5 of their tools and 4 of their batteries. I am on year 3 and all my batteries are turning into paperweights. My 5ah hold like 30% of their original charge, and my 2.5ah literally give me 15 minutes or less on like my leaf blower.

The tools work great. The convenience of electric is super. But I am mad I am going to have to drop $500 already on some new batteries. There is no way I would even come close to $500 of gas at this point.

I'm not saying don't go electric/EGO, just be aware that you will be replacing these batteries MUCH FASTER than you anticipate. Don't go electric because you think it will be cheaper in the long run - it won't be.

I don't the the lone batteries are really a deal unless you already have all the tools you want? You can get the 765 blower for $300 with a 5ah battery for example, and that blower is pretty beast. Or a 650 blower for 220 or so.

I'm pretty much in the same boat, and ended up dropping some serious cash on additional batteries. I'm trying to decide if it's worth to buy replacement cells and try swapping out myself.

How often do you run your tools? Just curious how many charge cycles you get before their batteries are in this condition

2017 was my first EGO tool. I had a 5ah for 2 years that I returned under warranty and got a replacement because of the battery drain issue I was seeing (EGO was good about the return, no issues there). During the pandemic I bought more EGO tools/batteries and now is when I'm seeing the same exact issues of why I RMA'd my first battery. Year 3 is the breaking point when it drops <50% original capacity.

Was I perfect with the battery maintenance? No. I charged it when I needed it. I kept it in the garage. I let it drain to 0% sometimes. I left it on the charger several days in a row. Because I'm a normal human and I'm not going to be a slave to my yard work equipment after working for 3+ hours in 90 degree heat. I'm tired. And this is why I'm speaking as a normal user. If the requirement for the battery is that you must be perfect on maintaining it, people have to know that. My use is what I consider normal use.

I have a ton of other electric tools (Ryobi, DeWalt, Milwaukee) where I've never had any battery drain issues that I've had with EGO.

EGO Tools I own:

Backpack Blower
Handheld Blower
16" Chainsaw
Hedge Trimmer
Weed Whacker
Multi-head edger/tiller

All great tools. Battery - meh. That's all I'm saying.
How do you like the backpack vs handheld blower if you only got one?

I store my battieries in a temp controlled environment. going on 6 years with my 2.5 and 4 with my 4ah, no issues so far, might have lost a little life in them, but nothing worth noting for me.

Thank you for your note! Repped.

As much as I would like the EGO battery tools that is what I afraid of. Bought a brand new 765 leaf blower and the battery would only get 30 minutes at most at medium power. Had to return it. Hoping to have this at a more better price point imo. These are batteries are way too expensive and their tools-only items by itself are expensive too.

So I've had these for about 4 years and my batteries still hold a good charge... Wondering if maybe they started cutting corners a year later? I also have 5 tools and 4 batteries

$20 more gets you this battery and a Blower at Ace Hardware. Shipping is ridiculous though, so you need a store nearby for local pickup.

Not often talked about, Li-ion batteries have a temperature range between 32°F to 113°F. Charging them below 32°F, will damage, or ruin them.

$40 more and you get a blower. Going this route and bet I can sell the blower for at least $80 pretty easily.

Wow, isn't pretty much always better to wait for a deal on a tool that comes with the battery and then sell off the tool to keep the battery for a lot cheaper than this?!
I agree, even if you already have said tool, nice to have a back up.
