There is a self parking garage across the street. It twenty something per day. Cheaper if you pay for the week.

I'm headed to Kauai with my family in July, struggling to find a good place to stay for a family of five. Anyone have any recommendations? I was looking at princeville but their portal seems to be straight from the 1990s, impossible to get any real information on rooms.
In Kauai, my wife and I stayed at a private condo in KBR. It was listed on VRBO. It was a very good deal compared to the normal resort rate. Plus, the on site car rental (Herz) was a bargain compared to the rates from the airport.

Stayed at this hotel using Hyatt points in Jan 2020. We enjoyed our stay there, free beach chairs, umbrellas and beach toys to use. Very close to Waikiki beach. Room was nothing to brag about but we pretty much just showered and slept in it. Rented car for one day to avoid the parking fees. We wanted to hit the shrimp trucks up north and some of the smaller beaches.
Would stay there again.

I did similar, stayed a week in 2018. I only rented a car for two days but felt the other beaches on the island were infinitely superior to Waikiki beach. I probably wouldn't stay in Waikiki again if I went back. The breakfast buffet was free, decent and helped cut down my food cost but not sure if they still do that.

Who knew? SD is about parking. 199 Hyatt Place isn't a deal. Is the going rate more or less and can be found on many sites and often cheaper if you know how to get discounts or package with other stuff.

Lastly, parking charges in any dense city has been around for decades. You either accept it or have already a system to avoid.

Looking at thumbs up and comments on this thread, you'd think this was a screaming deal..far from it.

Nor does the thread have any valuable insights. Moderators do your job because this is becoming the norm and hides many real deals.

Charging $50+ a day to park hasn't been around for decades. Case in point is Vegas where parking was always free everywhere until about 10 years ago. Now every hotel charges there. It's definitely a factor when price shopping now.

All big cities around the world has charged. Miami , NY, London, and on and on. Instead of $50, perhaps it was $35, but everything has gone up. Miami charges $75 10 years ago.

Las Vegas of free parking is no more and hadn't been for a while. Thought perhaps self parking still is at some spot and a void LV like a plague unless it's work.

And it's actually a good thing. if cars were so cheap to every tourist that visited Hawaii, it would be a disaster. it already is way too much.

We enjoyed Waikiki more back in the day when it mostly mom and pop restaurants and bakeries. Love getting some snacks from the bakeries after 10 pm when treats were on clearance. It's all chain restaurants and high end stores now.

The point is no less valid for a lot of folks. Parking can easily add $500 to a trip and just because you apparently don't care, a lot of people do. That's why I recommended vacation rentals since parking is free.

Yes exactly my point. This is about deals, not how to park free while in Hawaii. It just threadcaps deals

I'm not one to typically criticize deals like this but I do not understand anyone who would go all the way to Hawaii so that they could spend time in Waikiki. It's literally like going to Vegas so you can stay at an off-strip motel. Save your money and time.
