I would love to see where you're finding a 6ft top for significantly less than this posted deal? I haven't seen anything since before covid so I don't know how you're blaming SD for the lack of these deals? The market has changed, SD has no control over that. The lowest price I can find was $95 from last fall for a similar birch top... but that was like 9 months ago. The Ikea offerings are thinner and known to sag. If you have a good example you should share so people can make an informed decision on whether this deal is for them.

Excuse me for my different opinion. I think that is not cheaper to DIY build a similar butcher block style bench top if you add the cost of several quality 24" C-clamps and a 24" wide surface planner into the DIY project.

Nice to cut for toppers forr smaller toolchests! If you buy separately it will be almost 2x the cost. Deal is worth it. I bought a Craftsman bamboo top cheap at sears for this purpose years ago. Do it! You wont regret...

Cheaper to use 2x4 glued together and sanded.
Of course it is but your time is worth $ too.

From my own experience, these are going to better than ikea tops. I used a ikea butcher block top on a desk and it started sagging a bit after a year. There are some youtube videos with people complaining about same issue with ikea tops. Some have added extra support in the middle to prevent sagging. But why deal with that. Get something stronger like this one from home depot.
This is more to do with the lack of support under the table top.

I got two of these for $50 each at one of those stores that sells returned Amazon items. I made a big workbench and used them for the top. Very heavy and solid. Perfect for my workbench.
I'm more intrigued to learn about these stores that sell Amazon returns. Tell me more?

computer desks are 30" deep, this is only 24" deep. 6" matters.
Isn't the popular IKEA karlby just 25" deep? This isn't that bad then.

Could this be an alternative to ikea wooden tops for computer desks?
IMO you need more depth to make a good computer desk, especially if using larger monitors.

I actually bought 2 adjustable height workbenches from HD that came with this top and then removed and sold the tops to replace with 36" deep tops.

Would like to use this for a desk, but need 42" or less. Would HD cut this down?

I dont know what store that person is referring to but these stores and online auction sites are sprouting up all over -personally I have over the past 10 years purchased about 10K of tools and stuff for the house for 5K - 50% MSRP or more is what I shoot for.

I use RL online auctions howver it is local and local pickups. Once you have the bidding system learning curve down you will save some $$ but have to deal with timed auctions. I have yet to visit a physical store but its on my shopping bucket list. Vendors purchase truckloads of Amazon returns and overstocks from other stores and resell.
