Cheaper to use 2x4 glued together and sanded.
Yep. Just buy the wood, glue, tool to make biscuits or pins, planer to make wood square, sanders and paper to finish it, clamps. Great idea.

I'm still waiting for one of these "not a deal" people to provide an example... Even an expired semi-recent SD thread of a better deal than this.

The truth of the matter is that it simply does not exist. This is the new pricing until the raw materials market somehow gets oversaturated which isn't happening anytime soon.

Seems like a very specific product for a very specific need, but good find for those in the market.

I've been using this as a desktop on 2 ikea alex units for the last 3 years and have no complaints. It's held up very well and I've never wanted a deeper desktop. I put my monitors on a jarvis dual arm which leaves me plenty of space on top. If you're planning on staining the top just be warned that the factory finish is pretty hard to remove. It took ~3 hours of sanding with a DeWalt random orbital to strtp it.

I had this wood top for a computer desk, but ultimately went with something with 30" dimension. With 24" dimension I find that I'm sitting way too close to the monitor. If you're planning to use this as a computer desk I would recommend paying a little more and getting something that is 30" in dimension. The extra space where you can move your keyboard up and use as a desk for other tasks is underrated or just having that extra real estate to put things. It's also nice if you have dual or triple monitors where you won't have to turn your neck as much since you're sitting further away. I don't think I can go back to sub 30" dimension desks after having a 30" desk.

IMO you need more depth to make a good computer desk, especially if using larger monitors.

I actually bought 2 adjustable height workbenches from HD that came with this top and then removed and sold the tops to replace with 36" deep tops.

Which 36" deep tops did you end up going with? I've been on the hunt for some too.

Your local flooring store should stock some butcher block "island" size pieces. Apparently 6'x3' is commonly used for islands in homes.

This is the piece I used - https://www.flooranddecor.com/woo...24398.html

Would like to use this for a desk, but need 42" or less. Would HD cut this down?
I just picked this up yesterday. It comes in a box, so I doubt they'd cut it.

Ordered 5x. Thank OP. I'm using these as temporary countertops until the actual footprint for new cabinets are in place. Then they go to garage, garden, and outdoor kitchen worktops. The others I'll rip in half for some solid wood 12"x72" floating shelves which is much cheaper than anything offered currently for that size and thickness.

Ordered. The cheapest you'll find a 72x24 butcher block. I've been looking for a while for a replacement standing desk top. You may be able to find one $5/$10 cheaper but good luck getting it in stock

Ah yes bc pine wood is soooo similar to rubber wood. Give me a break. Pine is stupid easy to damage. It would never hold up well to the rigors of being a workbench
