I would love to see where you're finding a 6ft top for significantly less than this posted deal? I haven't seen anything since before covid so I don't know how you're blaming SD for the lack of these deals? The market has changed, SD has no control over that. The lowest price I can find was $95 from last fall for a similar birch top... but that was like 9 months ago. The Ikea offerings are thinner and known to sag. If you have a good example you should share so people can make an informed decision on whether this deal is for them.

Excuse me for my different opinion. I think that is not cheaper to DIY build a similar butcher block style bench top if you add the cost of several quality 24" C-clamps and a 24" wide surface planner into the DIY project.

Could this be an alternative to ikea wooden tops for computer desks?
Yea but at 24" by 72"? That's enough for a keyboard

IMO you need more depth to make a good computer desk, especially if using larger monitors.

I actually bought 2 adjustable height workbenches from HD that came with this top and then removed and sold the tops to replace with 36" deep tops.
I've been using a 40" monitor on a 48x24" IKEA desk for years. It's mounted on an arm so there's still plenty of room under it. I use a keyboard tray under the desk for the keyboard and mouse/trackball, though it would still fit if I scooted the monitor back.

Depending on your projects, I'd recommend a flat solid core door as a workbench. Gives you more depth and length and is around the same price. I tack a piece of sacrificial masonite onto the top that I can replace when it gets chewed up.

Anyone else not seeing free shipping? I tried to order this earlier, but it keeps reverting to $55 delivery.
I called and explained how it was showing "free delivery" when I searched for it, and they refunded me the $55 delivery fee without any hassle.

Who cares? Nobody cares or notices. Probably 4400 of your posts are saying the same thing. No one cares where a deal comes from.

the guy i replied to cared..Old timers care and he was genuinely asking where the real deals are .. If you've spent more time here you would've distinguished between a deal and an ad. It's your money and you can spend it on whatever you want. The staff sponsored ads disguised as deals is a new thing. My 4k posts were made in the now defunct " The Podium"

this is what I did with this table top

https://youtube.com/shorts/W-eAor...ture=share

agree, this is a bit narrow for a computer desk. but if you want to make it work try to
- use a monitor stand
- another idea is to build a draw for keyboard. this will help you maximize table top space

I have a Husky workbench of this size and I wish it was more than 24" in depth.
