Bought this on the last deal and returned it. You will NEVER make coffee as dark as the picture shows it. We tried lavazza espresso beans, espressions dark roast and Starbucks dark roast. They all tasted like watered down flavorless coffee and not like cold brew that you would ever get from any coffee shop. YMMV but that was our experience with it.

What was the longest period of time that you let it steep?

I know it advertises cold brew in as little as 25-45 minutes, but when I used to make mine I steeped at least 24 hours and as long as 48 hours.

Yeah, can't imagine that something like this can make anything comparable to the many hours it takes to make a decent cold brew.

A Hario Mizudashi makes a good cold brew, and is easy to clean.

45 minutes? I usually allow at least 12 hours for my cold brew to steep when I make it. I just use a mason jar and pour it into a pour over carafe with a filter, idk why I would buy a one use item that hardly works according to reviews.

I usually steep about 12-18 hours room temperature, 24 hours in the fridge

Do you just pour the grounds into the jar then filter later? I read dont shake judt let sit. Ive seen some filters you put the coffee then put in the mason jar, but the amount of coffee you put in seems like a lot

Wow this is horrible then. My takeya cold brew broke, but it made pretty good cold brew as long as it was steeped 24/48 hours.

24-48 hours?!?

In my own experience, I've found that anything over ~20 hours starts to taste like stale cardboard -- if cardboard could get stale. 16-18 hours has been my sweet spot for getting a real nice flavor with a very healthy caffeine kick.

*brewing mostly medium or dark roasts, with a fresh coarse grind right before steeping and a 4.5 to 1 water to grounds ratio​

I don't think I have ever drank any less than 24 hours. However I make cold brew only when my maple syrup jar is empty. So good. So maybe the sugar keeps the flavor nicer longer.

The stale taste comes from over-extraction. Maybe the sugar slows down the extraction process? Or maybe a different water to ground ratio could affect the extraction rate? Or both?
