No, it will not fix the shitty clients/boss you work for, or magically raise your salary either.

Speak for yourself. My $3500 Apple Cube back in the days helped with my art degree. It will not fix all your problems with life but if you have a need, go for it. Time is money.

Unless you're powering a monitor greater than 60hz, what limitations does the 2.0 have?

And is the thunderbolt port not an option at that point?
I use my 48inch oled as a monitor, which has hdmi 2.1 but no thunderbolt connectors. Do not want to use an adapter as I personally feel it would defeat the purpose of having so many ports.

Congrats if you need one now. The only risk here is that 3nm m3 chip may hammer on resell value of M1 and M2 chips. You may want to keep the box unopened until Apple's June event.
Feels like that's already priced in. Even if the M3 destroys the M1, I'd imagine it would be easy to sell one of these on eBay for ~$3000 because a comparable M3 May still cost $4900.

It saved me money from having to buy multiple computers, the sum of which would have cost more.

I can now run EDA software, do EM field solving on a laptop, on/off battery, without it overheating.

No way the M3 chip gets released in June. Showcased, Yes. Definitely not released in a new MacBook until the end of the year at least.

Grabbed one, nice deal. For the same price as the $3200 64GB/2TB M1 Max Mac Studio, you're getting the same CPU, GPU, and RAM, but with 2TB extra storage, a really nice display, portability, and better repairability (the Studio isn't as friendly to being taken apart).

It's a bit overkill (I only need 2TB/32GB), but discounts this deep on BTO configs are rare and its specs will help it hold its aftermarket value better than the more common models.
To be fair, Costco just had the M1 Ultra Studio 64gb/1tb for 3200 and that's double the processing power of the M1 Max. If you don't need the screen and portability that was a superior deal IMO.

I scored an M2 max mbp from Best Buy open box with zero battery cycles for 2600 + tax a few weeks back, otherwise I'd have hopped on this deal.

This "price cut" barely offsets the insane margin Apple charges for storage upgrades. Going from 512GB to 4TB is a laughable $1,200 on the Apple website. Meanwhile, top of the line 4TB NVME drives such as the SN850X have hit $300 recently. And of course, the cost for Apple is even less. I'm sure the new $1,500+ 15" MacBook Air coming out soon will come with 256GB storage/8GB RAM...in 2023...just pure extortion.
