I have a fairly small wooden deck and vinyl siding. How bad of an idea would this be?

Depends on if you are planning to hit that 6-700* sear it's capable of. That's the only time I'd be worried about how hot the unit gets… but honestly any grill getting that hot will be a liability.

For context my 560 is about 4 feet from my vinyl siding and is directly below an awning. I have zero concerns and have been running it this way for 4 years HOT.

What's the lifespan on these? I love my kamado but I'm a sucker for tech and I feel like this would eliminate my having to baby the kamado during long smoke sessions.

I just got mine and it's so much easier to smoke on vs my Kamado. Nothing really touches the flavor I get from the Kamado, but for long cooks it's so much easier on the 560.

I can't speak on longevity yet, but I was expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised by the build quality. For less than $400 it's a no brainer and you're gonna get your money's worth IMO.

Last year I was in the market for my first pellet grill and seriously contemplated Camp Chef Woodwind Pro 36 for $1,500. Then Costco had the Masterbuilt Gravity 800 on sale for $399 without the griddle components. I went with the cheaper option. I'm very satisfied even without the griddle components. I could always buy those add-ons later.

Would that be a good price ?
Yes good deal. That series comes with the pizza oven add-on and it MIGHT be compatible with the griddle components (please research). That would be a very versatile setup to grill, smoke, flat top, and pizza oven. Getting rotisserie (doesn't exist) would make it complete.

I sold my Kamado and nothing's ever been the same. I even purchased one of the cheap vision Kamado style grills and it just doesn't hold temp like the Kamado Joe.

You don't need a new grill, you just need a controller for your kamado. I have one of these on my egg:

I do have a Masterbuilt gravity 800 also, but it's because I cook a lot, and I often have multiple grills going at the same time.
Be warned: The Masterbuilt uses MUCH more charcoal than a kamado will.

I recently got my 560 and the main mods I plan to do is the LSS firebox mod. For the charcoal, you can use metal skewer rods to fill in the space or buy the new MB grate; if you still have warranty, the reddit thread said you can try to put in a request and get it for free.

Also waiting for the 800 to drop.

But it has had me thinking about just getting a digital smoker and a griddle. I think I prefer flat top burgers/hot dogs/steak better than charcoal. Then I can just smoke ribs+chicken in the digital. And it's cheaper if the 800 doesn't drop! Sorry, rambling...

They make a griddle for the bigger models

Yeah it's why I was looking at the 800. I just think the conversion process isn't practical for me. But tbh, this plus a decent griddle is going to run me the same as the 800. My overall feeling is it's just too expensive lol

I was curious how this compares to a kamado. I have a medium egg and it's so easy to cook a 12 hr brisket. Let it do its thing over night. I wonder if it's the size of the kamado that affects the temp hold. Only down side on my egg is I can only fit half a packer brisket.

I've been eyeing a cheap vision for the larger size.

Have one of these I bought Jan '22 and it died after giving me all types of hell. (I can't believe I'm saying my GRILL died! Doesn't even make sense to me.)

The Bluetooth is only to connect to Wi-Fi which is finicky to connect. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. At some point, it would reset to Celsius.

It was amazing when it worked but after a year and a half, I need to either get it serviced or set on the street.

If I had to do it again, I wouldn't get this unit. It's not for big cooks and inconsistent.

I would go with Klotes over LSS.Also unless it is a old model it should have the new style grate.
