(Renewed) 14k BTU portable air conditioner from DeLonghi, model PACEL390HLWKC from Woot! (Amazon), recommended for up to 700 sq ft.

I waited to post this until I received mine as there wasn't much in the way of reviews. I can say it arrived quickly and might as well have been new in box. It is admittedly louder and heavier than I expected, not sure how that compares with other units. I would also suggest looking into alternative window kits to use with it. It came with one but there are probably better solutions than this one. I perched the unit up so I could have the condensate drain into a bucket and the hose decoupled from the attachment piece, easy fix but annoying. The exhaust hose gets pretty hot but I would assume that's fairly typical. Overall, for the price compared to new models I'm satisfied. Grab one before the summer heat hits and these sell out.

Dual hose models are probably better but the few models I could afford had iffy reviews.

This also has dehumidification mode, heating mode, or just fan mode for an all year around solution.

Feel free to ask questions as I'm using this currently. The lowest setting seems to get to 64 and I believe the stat, the air took a while to cool down but now it's significantly colder. I'm still playing around with the other settings and haven't tested the other modes yet, but dehumidification mode should come in handy to cut down on utility usage.

consider investing in a condensate pump with these portable ac units too, should be about $45 plus tubing but it'll allow you to avoid having to raise the unit up

Has anyone tested just how much worse a single-hose is compared to a dual-hose? Is a dual-hose $300 better?

I work in HVAC, I couldn't justify the price hike. The two hoses are going to be so close together at the window vent, you're going to get cross flow from intake to exhaust anyway. I also read some pretty terrible reviews on a couple dual hose models

This is on Woot for 249.99, seems to be the same model. https://sellout.woot.com/offers/d...eater-ac-2

Though I wound up purchasing on Amazon since 90 day return > what seems to be a 30 day return policy on Woot.

I bought one of these units in 2020, and it stopped cooling before the summer was over (lost its whatever gas was using, R134 maybe). I bought another identical unit in 2021, this time with the extended warranty. It started making a horrible noise after a couple of months. Tried using the warranty, but they would not cover the shipping costs, which was significant, so I ended up not sending it back because it was too much effort and cost for me.
I've always bought refurbished stuff, but these two times I got burned. No more refurbished AC units for me.
I opted to buy a new unit from Costco for $319 just a couple of weeks ago (different brand and features). I have a better chance with Costco.
I do not recommend these units to anyone. They don't even look new.

This has a SACC rating of 8,700 BTU. SACC takes into account single hose vs. dual hose effects. 8700 SACC is really really low for 14000 ASHRAE, indicating low energy efficiency [actual analysis below].

https://slickdeals.net/f/16724213-toshiba-14-000-btu-115v-inverter-wi-fi-portable-air-conditioner-refurbished-349-99

For just $70 more you can get this, which happens to be dual hose, but more relevantly, has a SACC rating of 12,000 BTU. So 38% more cooling for 25% more money. Also note that the Toshiba does 12,000 BTU of cooling with 11.9 amps of electricity, vs. the 8700 BTU of cooling for the DeLonghi using 11.7 amps of electricity. So the Toshiba will do the same cooling with 26% less electricity bill. Generally when the ASHRAE BTU and SACC BTU are very far apart, it means lots of wasted electricity.

There are good single-hose units, but this isn't a good unit.

it *was* on woot last year and i picked one up. it works great and i'm using it as we speak. i even got my buddy to pick one up at the $280 price and it's still a deal.

I tried a few portable ac units and this unit cooled down my big room faster than other ones at the same price.

Can you give us some good example of single hose unit that are great?

I've had a DeLonghi PACAN125HPEK refurb since late 2022 and usee it in my 4th floor bedroom which gets really hot (since heat rises and it faces the afternoon sun), and this keeps it really cool.

It's ASHRAE128 12,500 BTU/h (I think it was 7,200ish for the new DoE BTU/h which is the same as the SACC [Seasonal Adjusted Cooling Capacity]).

I just replaced it with a dual hose HiSense from Costco [costco.com] (currently $399.99) and it seems to run a lot less.

It's supposed be more efficient so it should help on the electric bills, so if that pays off then it'll be worth it.

The DeLonghi was still running, but when my previous one (that I had for ages) took a dive, it was hard to find a new one at a decent price (when I could actually find one). So I got the DeLonghi when it was on sale, so it will be my spare and I'll use the more efficient one in the meantime.
