for starters, basmati rice has distinct smell and that's why it is called bas+mati = aromatic soil rice.
royal basmati is not the best one but it is a basmati rice with less auroma.
So your experience depends on what you planning to cook, this one is good for making vegetable rice, green peas rice, lemon rice, egg rice, scrambled egg rice.
But if you plan to make biryani then this one will disappoint, try different aromatic ones from Indian grocery store.

for about the same $1/lbs without having to bulk stock up;

long grain jasmine and "basmati" are pretty interchangeable.
royal lacks the dry chewy starch and nutty fragrance of a real
india grown basmati (despite the authentic looking packaging)
leaving royal as a generic and rather bland rice like product.
i live near jackson heights ny which has an indian grocer on
every avenue, so trust me when i say; royal is NOT basmati.
i've been in indian grocers where a quarter of the store was
a hundred different rice sacks, and none were this brand.
Agreed. I found Royal to be very substandard compared to other brands.
Cool story, bro!

Anyone know how much is the costco organic basmati rice these days (is it 20 or 25 lb)?
Costco in Apex NC has organic royal basmati for $27.69/20 lbs. first time I bought organic rice yesterday to try it out.

She and her friends all much prefer their Imperial Dragon brand rice.
Yes, it trash grade rice, just ordered last week from Amazon.
The taste is terrible ๐, very dried
Basmati rice has two distinct categories - regular / rozana - which is usually not aromatic, not as long and is for daily use. The premium basmati is expensive, aromatic and is used occasionally for pulao/biryani. While nothing prevents you from using premium long grain basmati rice daily, the aroma wears off quickly and can even be nauseating to many if used everyday
The deal here is for Royal's regular basmati- and it is definitely one of the better ones in that category. Royal also sells an expensive premium variant- with slight aroma and much longer grain - costs approximately $37 locally.
Additional note: Get your basmati rice from the local Mediterranean store (And if non near you, why do you eat rice in 1st place?!) and you pay far less for much better quality than this deal.

Not a chance
Basmati is a far superior flavorful rice than Jasmine.
And once you 3 wash and soak for 30 mins and then cook each kernel separates and is long and tender
Royal is an average quality basmati and this is the standard price at Costco anytime.
