Nice find. 13th gen Intel, 1080p OLED, 16gb ddr5, Rtx 3050 6gb. Good deal under $700. 60hz and no touch screen is the only downside to me.

The soldered RAM is a bummer as well, it's beefy enough that having the option to bump up to 32 GB RAM would be nice.

Also the open box pricing seems to be limited to store availability, so YMMV

Apparently, a lot of OLED displays that are touchscreen have a noticeable grid that can make text grainy. Not having the touchscreen resolves this issue. If you want a touchscreen, a high brightness IPS display might be the way to go until the OLED screens figure out a better way to do touchscreen.

I snagged the open-box excellent that was available plus a 32GB dimm to upgrade. Total cost just under $800.

Looks like there is one Dimm soldered and another upgradable from the ASUS website and also in the Q&A section of best buy.

Don't be so confident in "Open box Excellent" , I order a Samsung laptop that was said to be Open Box excellent, which said should be coming with all original accessories. They send the laptop losely wrapped in bubbles, with HP power adapter, no s-pen and other original accessories that some with it. Such a disappointment with bEST bUY again. Returned , they fully refunded.
Just a "Peace of Mind"

Yes, guess it's a lottery, I will report back once I get it on it's status.

Come on people, this laptop started to sell like 1 month ago. If you snagged an openbox its likely that it will only have like 1 or 2 days of use

I believe the phrase that you are looking for is "Peace of Mind", which is something different from the context you wrote.

Maybe "Just my two cents" is more applicable for yours.

I bought this laptop last time it hit the FP and it was pretty nice. It felt solid and well built, i enjoyed it. However, I also got a bad "Open Box - Excellent" that had a slightly bent aluminum lid and a scratch on the lid, and the screen has some pretty bad PWM (which was the main deciding factor to return), so if that bothers you, beware. Otherwise, good deal for sure.

Best Buy " Open box Excellent" really is more miss than hit. I got an asus laptop that was missing almost all of the screws that hold the bottom on. it basically had 2 screws out of 16. The laptop performed fine so I decided to keep it, but in no way should it have been categorized as "excellent"

On sale right now for $899.99. The title seems a little misleading showing the open box discount off the full price of $1099.99. That will be accurate once the sale ends, but for now I think it's important to note that the delta between the open box price and NIB price is actually $200 less than what shows in the title.

OP says it has a sodimm slot, so you can go higher than 16GB, albeit constrained by 8+__GB for whichever sodimm capacity you add. UEFI prolly allows at least 8+16GB = 24GB, which is plenty for VMs, containers, large datasets, etc. 8+32GB would be awesome.

Imo, this is a monster deal if you can get it. Even has 'H' class cpu!
