It's not steel "slats". by "slats" they mean 1/2" diameter hollow sheet metal tubes.

My kids jumped on it a few times and even with a mattress on it quickly bowed.

they are 3 and 4 years old lol

Got this bed in a king a while back. It's definitely not sturdy enough for extracurricular activity. Middle leg became wobbly in a month.
