I got these at 450, they're nice but I agree 300-350 is the right price for them. Especially since they're not sweat or water resistant and I'm not comfortable ruining 450 dollar headphones at the gym

They're competitive at $300-350, so they'll never drop below that price.

As they are currently made, that would be a huge stretch. Apple averages about a 36% gross profit margin on hardware. It's possible that they have a higher profit margin. Some estimates put AirPods at 59% gross profit margin but that's a made up number and is likely much higher than the margins for the Max. If we assume a 50% profit margin (not likely), that means Apple's gross profit point is $275. That's their break even point ignoring other factors that reduce gross margins to net. A 40% profit margin has break even at $330. 36% is at $352.

Unless Apple makes them more cheaply, selling them for under $350 is highly unlikely and not profitable. Again, MSRP of $350 means Apple would likely be breaking even on them, and not making much of a profit. That's not how Apple works.

A pair of bose qc45 has a $330 msrp and is made of plastic. at $550, there is a very clear apple tax for the airpods max.
At $450, these are not cheap, but their construction is more expensive than the bose, and they play very nicely with the apple ecosystem. This is expensive, but not unreasonable.
If they had a usb C connector instead of lightning, I would strongly consider buying at this price, and would be a definite yes at $399
