Well, you do go back. Over the same part of the floor a few times.

The best cordless I've tested (V10?) is still well below our 10yo basic DC40 corded model on everything. They're great for portability and touchups, though. Dyson batteries can be spotty, but the 2y warranty helps.

Bought this about three years ago in a weird, Macy's Black Friday in July event for $199. It's a solid vacuum and it's definitely more powerful than the V8 cordless we have. I prefer to use this one when cleaning the whole house as opposed to quick touch up cleaning with the cordless.

Not sure if this one from Walmart comes with the same amount of attachments (a lot) that the Macy's variant did.

I have both. If I'm doing a quick clean up job or dusting, I'm using the cordless. If I'm vacuuming the entire room with carpet, there is no contest between my upright, corded Dyson and my V8 stick.

I enjoy them both for different uses. The stick simply doesn't have the pulling power of the corded vacuums and the batteries die quickly and take forever to charge but they are highly portable. The corded vac is big and heavy and you have to deal with the power cord constantly but it is powerful and lasts as long as you need it.

Stick vacs are great if you live in a very small space without carpet. Anything else and I'm very glad I have both.

Canister vacs are great for getting under your bed, sofa & other furniture that normally would not be doable with an upright. I know uprights have the nozzle you can detach, but the reach is not as good as the cannisters, nor is the suction in my experience. It usually ends up tipping over.

Is this model not HEPA? I thought all Dysons had HEPA filtration.

Is this one good for both carpets and hardwood floor ? Thanks !
We are not a fan of this Vac on our carpet. The air powered brush barely works. The suction is good but it doesn't seem to do a great job. Hard floor however is great.

Ok maybe I'm crazy but why not buy a commercial style vacuum for the same price? Or better yet a backpack style one? They got to be stronger and more durable. If any one knows better please correct or guide me!

So i just bought this deal and it came yesterday. I have had 3 previous dyson standup vacuums and our current one is a ball stand up. I can tell you from those models this sucks about twice as much, after one pass it picked up so much it was scary. I usually only buy new dyson when it is at $200 tag. Some other pluses, is the thing follows you as you move and it also automatically sucks up the cord. The cord should be longer though. Glad i bought it, its awesome.

hah! funny. My roommate bought a crappy Fabuletta $100 cordless vac. It does the job, but as with most off brand electronics, not very good.

I am trying to buy a canister vacuum so I can do a better job with cleaning. The cordless is good for a quick cleaning. Very weak though.

What is the Miele equivalent model to this?
They're in different leagues. Miele is upper echelon. But Dyson corded ones are pretty decent too. Just avoid the battery stick ones (V6,7,8,...).

Dyson fans are not pragmatists. It's for the design.

Commercial are tough to beat but heavy, clunky and ugly. Good for garage but already have wet vacs. In house is Miele, Dyson or others.

As always just avoid the overpriced Dyson battery stick vacs.

I've seen commercial ones that seem great especially backpack models and they aren't to big plus I see an advantage of eventually making the kids wear it as a punishment.

I have a DeWalt portable shop vac for quick cleans or hard to reach. Much more flexible to for wood shavings as well or cleaning out pet cages etc.

I chatted with Dyson CS yesterday and found out that this model does not have a HEPA filter, nor is the brush head motorized, it's powered by suction. I'm probably going to return it.

LOL, that's so funny! My kids are up for a good chore this summer. Or maybe bring back the nostalgia of ... Ghost Busters.

False I own the cordless one as well and I live in an apt with wood floors. So the only carpet I have is a few area rugs but I still need the canister for the thick carpets and cordless Dyson for the wood floor.

I always wondered how these worked. So, it rolls behind you while you vacuum? Do you just pull it along using the vacuum tube?
Yep, depending on how good and new the wheels are, they kind of just follow you so you might not have to pull on the tube.
