Absolutely yes! I can't speak for the other models' failure rate in Focal's line as I've only bought the Elegia's from Adorama (but searching on this topic indicates YES). But 1 year and 2 months after I bought this model, the headband broke and there's nowhere to buy a replacement headband. I am now going to attempt to 3D print a replacement part but my hopes are not high. I did keep them hanging on a headphone rack but this shouldn't cause this failure to happen.
BOTTOM LINE: Don't waste your money on a product that will break because the mfr decided to bond plastic to metal with no mfr support. I couldn't imagine spending thousands on a Focal Clear or Utopia model only to have it break with normal use. Avoid this brand at all costs. I should've done my research first.

If you want to compete with the Clears in a closed-back you need the Stellia.

As far as breaking, some folks must be really hard on their headphones. I have never had an issue with the headband breaking on any Focals. That said my issues with all brands haven't been with the physical structure, it's always something else that fails.

Awesome price for these! I bought them a couple of years ago at 399 and are definitely worth that price. Also have the Focal Elex and those are the best sounding headphone I own. I do prefer open back headphones but these sound amazing for closed back ones.

These headphones have a very mid-focused tuning. If you are not into doing EQ and you enjoy a more v shaped sound, I would pass on these even though the price is attractive. I got them a few months ago and ended up returning them because I just didn't love the sound
I'd like to share my experience with these headphones and why I think they are worth the effort of adjusting to their unique sound tuning. According to Focal, these headphones were designed like freestanding speakers in a micro room, unlike most headphones. Since Focal's approach differs from others, the presentation of sound stage takes some getting used to. I was disappointed upon first listen. If fact, after 2 weeks, I was ready to pack them up and return them. I got busy with live and missed my return window, so I put them in the case, and they slept in the closet for months.

Fast forward to April of this year, and I buy a new headphone amplifier. I start going through my headphone collection to run the amp through its paces, and I remember the Focals. I am not going to say that there was some magical transformation, but I think time and distance helped me approach them from a different perspective.

The sound stage in my experience is more of a short rectangular cube than an oval bubble that I am used to. On well recorded and mastered stereo recordings, instruments and vocals occupy their own space with air around them. The tonal balance is mid-focused, so if you listen to many music styles, this should not be your only set of headphones, but if you have a headphone collection, this should be a part of it. Although this is a discontinued set, you should be able to find a number of reviews online that can provide you with more details.

Do you think there is a way to prevent or preempt this failure point? Like open up the headband and douse it with jbweld? I have them have been using them gingerly and at home only so I don't care if they look bad, but if I loose the headband capability I'm going to have to hack and weld them to another companies headsets???

Wow, thanks for the heads up. On the surface this looked like a great deal. Guess I'll stick to my Beyerdynamic Dt 770 Pro.

DT770, eww. The most bland hp's in the world.

Slap the real Oratory1990 EQ on this and it fixes it's wonky tuning
