Hmm..still on the hunt for my 12 yr olds first gaming laptop for working on getting his straight A's. Would this run Valorant without breaking a sweat? I don't know what my expectations should be with a mid tier 3060. It appears the screen is pretty nice/bright? And the CPU is a beefier one. Got one for pickup later. The price is a bit cheaper than the 3070/3070Ti units floating around. Am I going to regret it?

Build on these is nice, but still entirely made of plastic.

M16 screens are VERY nice, easily it's strongest attribute. The GPU is a 100w part. They list 120w boost, but I never saw it use more than 105/110 when I had this machine. Should be more than adequate for Valorant or any AAA title at native resolution and med/high settings.

You could check into this Legion 5 Pro w/ 3070 on clearance at Walmart (https://slickdeals.net/f/16568447-huge-ymmv-lenovo-legion-5-pro-16-gaming-laptop-qhd-165hz-amd-ryzen-7-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3070-16gb-ram-512gb-ssd-windows-11-home-storm-grey-82jq00f9us-449). Low probability, but worth at least an online check. My area shows possible availability at $899 via the BrickSeek link shown in the post. If you can find this one you get the 3070 plus better build quality.

I got this computer and can tell you that the build is part metal and part plastic. It is great overall. The machine does get hot and loud with usage, but I think that is with all gaming laptops. Screen is definitely a plus.

Wow. Great laptop for $800

Got mine during Black Friday last year after trying about 5-6 different machines. Love mine.

Top of laptop is metal.
Keyboard deck is firm
Really nice typing experience
Nice big track pad
No numpad which I prefer, found Lenovo offset keyboard very very strange
Great 1200p screen
Battery around 5-6 hours when optimized
Gets a little warm under load but stays cool in the places it needs to

Ugh, it's tempting, but with how many ASUS laptops I've returned due to QC issues, I can't stress enough that anyone buying it should make sure to test it out thoroughly before the return period is up. Check the hinges, for coil whine, heavy backlight bleed, crackling speakers in silent mode, make sure you're ok with the noise and heat output, and also check for the screen flashing/blinking on and off randomly especially during gaming.

Not as nice as the Best Buy site says, though: It gives the resolution as 1600p. But yeah, I think I'd rather take 500 nits at 1200p, over 300 nits at 1440p like the 2021 g15.

does the hinge break easily? What is coil whine?

do you game on it? how loud youve experience?

i tried out the asus g14, 2022 version, it just stays hot while idle, hitting close to 70C...​

A 1650 or 3050 laptop would run Valorant without breaking a sweat. However given how cheap 3060 laptops have become maybe this is worth it.
