it was overnight at narita airport. everyone affected got full refunds and were provided sleeping bags, water and snacks. i wouldn't mind spending the night at narita and getting ramen or bento box.
It's caused by strong cross wind. After a few failed landing attempts, the flight landed on the alternative airport. When it finally reached the destination airport, it's 7 hours late. No immigration staff was on duty at late night. No transfer flight could take off at late night. Therefore passengers were stranded in the airport until next morning.
Starlux is a new small airlines with few airplanes. The delay of the flight caused cascaded delays.

fun fact: both fly 777 from US to Taiwan. UAL flies SFO to TPE with a 3-4-3 configuration in economy. EVA flies LAX/SFO to TPE with a 3-3-3- configuration in economy.
US carriers are always in a race for who can provide the least for the cheapest price.
its why this whole launch with Starlux was such a big deal, as they clearly wanted to provide better service as EVA/China Airlines for about the same price.
you can also hire taxi drivers willing to take you places if you are brave.
or just use Uber, its actually slightly cheaper than calling cabs and you don't have to deal with language barriers.
The travel credit cards show up on many sites as these sites get paid by many of these annual fee based cards.
They won't list other cards with no foreign transaction fees as they don't make money from them.
Merchants in Taiwan have become the first outside the USA to be able to accept in-store contactless payments on iPhones using Apple's Tap to Pay software point of sale (sPOS) feature.

You can use that card to take MRT, bus, train, and u-bike. Public transit in Taiwan is very cheap. A lot of stores (convenient stores, bubble tea, etc.) accept that card as well.

Side note, the American Citi Costco Visa works at the Costcos there! (IIRC they don't accept any other CCs other than the co branded Costco card in taiwan)
