90 watts is adequate for 99% of home theaters. People greatly exaggerate the amount of power necessary.

Had to forward the SlickDeals email to my Gmail account, then open with my Chromebook. Happiness ensued. $399 price and free shipping (finally) appeared. I have vacillated between Onkyo and Denon receivers for years. IMO, Onkyo gives you better value in the short run--more features for less $$. However, I have found my Denon receivers longer lasting--they just don't break. Normally, I have been purchasing and using the Denon "In Command" receivers, but this S-series is just flat out a better value (IMO). Make YOUR choices and pays your money...

The 703s have a low efficiency rating of 88. The vast majority of people own relatively efficient speakers and have relatively small rooms. This means their power requirements are much lower than 90w per channel. So 90w will be fine for the vast majority of people.

Here's how to figure out what you need

Yes this always gets pigeon holed into power/watts.
How much/many you need varies widely and many factors to consider.

Just look at those 703's, Polk's says:
"Recommended Amplifier Power Per Channel:20 watts → 200 watts"

This sure is tempting, but I got the S760H for $250 from Costco last year. Even though I know this one is better, the S760H has been working fine. Perhaps if I'd paid $350 or $400 for the S760H I'd be returning it in favor of this one. Great deal, though, and reps to the OP.

Anyone know the purpose of attaching the power cable instead of having it detachable? Is it less expensive for them?

Anybody see 9.2 AVRs getting down to $500-600 this summer? Got a return eligible S760h and would be all over this, but don't wanna miss out on two more channels. Not paying double for those two channels though 🤣
Only refurbished after they raise the cost of receivers doing pandemic I haven't seen anything new with 9 channels at that price point.I waited years and just gave and brought the 970 and it's a great receiver.

I am a complete newb to receivers. I recently bought a new house and the house has 10 built in ceiling speakers........ 6 speakers are in the living room/ TV room, 2 in the master bedroom, and 2 outside on the porch. Would this receiver allow me to play the same song out of all speakers? IS there any other equipment I should look into buying? Thank you for helping this newb.

Been looking for a decent HT receiver to replace my aging Denon from like 15 years ago. It works great with the exception of only having 2 HDMI inputs. Been looking for a decent modern receiver with many HDMI inputs so I can run everything through it. Looks like this will do nicely! Plus with all the other modern features. Thanks OP!

Any reason to upgrade from an x2300w if only using 4k with 5.1.2?

Can this use zone 2 while zone 1 is playing audio?

Edit: ah looks like zone 2 would use the rear surround channels, currently in use for the atmos speakers, so no.
