Maybe overkill for what you need if you just want a simple setup to play the same music across the 10 speakers.

The short answer to your question is yes, it would allow you to play the same music across all 10 speakers. This receiver has 7 speaker inputs (+ 2 sub inputs) but you could just plug two speakers into a single input for 3 of the inputs to support the 10. If it's multi-zone (think it has 2 zones) you could set up the speakers in two separate zones and play separate music at the same time on those zones.

Good receiver, I waa able to get an openbox from Ebay last fall. 120hz works great.

Recently created an alert hoping to get the S760H the next time it went on sale at Costco, then this S970H pops up. Replacing a 20+ year old Kenwood 5.1 setup so I've got some more updating to do. Thanks!

90w per channel is pretty good but with this receiver you are lucky if you can get 50w per channel in 7.1 mode so preouts are very important. My main setup has jbl 580, still sr7005 with 125w per channel in paper can not drive them well.

Be careful. You can clip the amplifier running too many speakers at once, especially over long runs of speaker wire. Hopefully the last owner installed at least 12 gauge wire for the other zones.

eARC is a big asset if you want to pass Atmos or lossless PCM from the TV back to the AVR, be it through a console you have hooked up to the TV or an app you are using. That's probably the only thing you really need (I think the X2300 has ARC but not eARC). If you have that, there's no reason to keep going on the upgrade carousel since the TV itself is the only component in the chain that truly needs to be able to handle VRR and the rest of the newer 2.2 features. Plug your gaming consoles into the TV direct, send everything else (whatever you still have) to the AVR, and have eARC enabled and you're going to be good for a long while. Spend the extra $$ on the TV or speakers.

And if you're not gaming, then there's basically no rationale to be heavily invested in one of these anyway -- not unless your receiver is really old and in need of replacement.

This IS a great deal though. I've been through recent Onkyo and Sony AVR's to test them out, and I'm happiest with the 2019 Denon I have (x4500) with the higher end Audyssey. If the Audyssey in this AVR works half as well (I have not tried it, only the XT32 version) then it really makes it a phenomenal deal. The Onkyo I tried (7100) was like a featherweight by comparison and sounded so weak, even with the much touted Dirac Live being implemented (and I did calibrate my system with it, and it still sounded terrible).

FYI It may not be the AVR that's the problem since the recommended power/watts starts at 25 watts with those speakers.
