Beginning in 2024, everyone under the income limit qualifies for the full $7,500 rebate. It does not matter if you owe less than that in taxes, and you can get it at the time of purchase instead of waiting for next year's taxes.

edit: For clarification from the wiki: "The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due."
So lower income people will not get a $7500 refund, it depends on your liability. i.e. A SDer responded about a student being angry in a previous thread that they only got $500 back and not $7500.
Virtually all of the ICE vehicle can be recycled. Generally the only items not recyclable per se will be interior trim - it's mixed plastic and rubber. Engine? steel or aluminum. Gearcases? Steel or aluminum. Body, frame, etc, steel or aluminum. In fact, about 86% of a car can be recycled [recyclenation.com].
Meanwhile your EV will still have a fully and readily recyclable frame and body, just like the ICE. The motor will generally be recyclable. The battery? Not really. Generally batteries and battery packs are not really designed for recycling. Most are just thousands of individual cylindrical cells, that themselves are spiral wound multilayer structures. There's no easy way to separate the materials here. An ICE, you literally rip out the engine with heavy equipment and include it in with any other steel or aluminum - the process is astonishingly easy and quick [youtube.com] with heavy equipment.
Meanwhile, the batteries are generally just shredded [ucsusa.org]. The resulting material is called "black mass" and is placed into a bath of caustic chemicals to leech out the *important* elements. In certain cases, that black mass is first incinerated to burn off plastic and epoxies. Yeah that sounds super efficient and environmental to me.

You already have zero credibility here and are just posting because EV's upset you, and at this point not only am I reposting to counter your extreme bias, but to also keep this deal alive so people can see it. I am curious how long we can keep it going!
Chevy has discontinued this model as the battery is old technology in favor of their ultium platform so no one is making a replacement battery.
Since there is only a handful of these cars on the road, no third party is making a replacement and GM has a few refurbs for warranty but thats it.
So if you need a new battery out of warranty you just scrap the car and buy a new one.

When an ICE fails, it is usually only some components that can be repaired or replaced. If the battery fails, it is catastrophic.
That's a big risk and some people drive more than 12K a year, so you could easily be out of warranty in 4 years or even less.

I don't think you see the point here in your blind crusade for EVs.
This car, with a discount and rebate still comes in around mid-20s, for that you can get a civic or corolla. These cars have no maintenance except oil and air filters for the first 100K miles so very economical to use and will have a good resale value.
Worst case something catastrophic fails, chances are it is repairable for less than a new car. No so with all of your eggs in one basket called a battery
If you don't like this deal, then don't buy the car. This post was about a deal for this car, not about your views on EV's. However it is nice keeping this thread alive and at the top of slickdeals as long as we possibly can so that everyone can see how good of a deal this is! So I don't really mind talking about how upset you are over EV's, it just helps keep the thread alive lol.
Also, it is not 8 or even 10 year warranty with unlimited miles, there is a mileage limit and it is completely plausible to reach that far before 8 or even 10 years, so please stop that nonsense.

A used battery pack has value- it's not going into a landfill. The lithium and other metals will be extracted and recycled. Old battery packs are selling for $5000-$8000 depending on capacity.
We're just now getting longterm studies on battery life, and batteries look to be good for 250K-300K miles. That's a lot longer than a lot of ICE vehicles on the market.
