I'm actually considering this exact model. Both this and the next newer model are available open box. If anyone can chime in with their expert opinions it would be appreciated!

I'd definitely go for the newer one if you have the budget. There's a steep difference of around $300 between both the open-boxes, so that's something to consider.
The newer one is better in every way except it runs super warm and you have to tweak it to get the best experience. However, it mainly depends on your needs and the titles you plan on playing.

The open boxes are a hit and miss according to various members, however majority are satisfied, and I'm one of them. I've bought open-boxes from BB before and I've barely had a bad experience.

I got this last time when openbox was $693. I like it for the most part. One gripe would be the color of the keyboard with the back lighting, I find it hard to make out the keys at certain angles. Performance is great for gaming on the go

I owned this model, and I found the 16:9 screen to feel rather small. I now use a 16:10 ultrabook, and I have used 3:2 aspect ratios as well and the taller the better imo. 16:10 is a great compromise for gaming and productivity.

This laptop has coil whine from the keyboard all the time even while in sleep mode. It can sometimes be fixed, but not always.

Great deal. I've had this laptop and it performs great for the size. Not super loud, can play anything at 1080p with DLSS. Screen is a bit dim when your use to 500 nits. Not sure you can beat the performance in a tidy package for 675 bucks.

I just got our Alienware X14 and had the same feeling about the 14" 1080p screen. It's not 16:9 it's the combination of low res (1080p) and 16:9. The aspect ratio is great on a 27" 1440p screen.

Can't complain for these prices though.

Looking at the differences in best buys descriptions... wow they are useless in some regards.
They consider 2560 x 1600 equal to 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) since in their view it's either FHD or it's 4K and everything in between is the same resolution lol

They also note a difference between "Certified Excellent" and "Excellent" as
"Typically contains original packaging" vs "Typically contains packaging"
What does that even mean? What packaging? Where did it come from?

I would go with the newer one, better processor, same GPU, better screen. It's easily $300 in upgrades. The 6700s is also the "cooler" of the newer versions I'm not saying you won't need to tweak it to stay cool as that was a huge topic the last few times this deal popped up but it is definitely a way better choice than the model that has the 6800s in it and is nothing but overheating problems.

Not bad for a coding computer, work or school. At least the RAM can be upgraded unlike MacBooks.

Newer one is better overall. But Nvidia tied their AI upscaling tech (DLSS) to their CUDA cores. AMD proved that you can run the bulk of it on regular GPU shaders and made FSR open for other GPUs. So Nvidia can use DLSS and FSR, but AMD cannot use DLSS.

FSR 2 is seeing rapid adoption but DLSS still has a head start and better availability. Definitely matters for the long-term when your laptop starts to show its age and also in the present, given the thermal limitations of a laptop.

I like this laptop, but I never owned an AMD processor before. Always prefer Intel's

What Intel processor would Ryzen 7 5800HS be equivalent to?
