Last year's model, but I think it's a beast for the form factor and price. FYI no camera.

Game like a pro on Windows 11 with this ROG Zephyrus G14. The ROG Zephyrus G14 packs an 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 5800HS CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU. Enjoy a fast 144Hz refresh rate, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and 512GB of PCIe SSD storage all wrapped in a light 3.53 lbs chassis. The future is thin and light.

I really liked the 2021 model and I owned both the FHD and QHD versions. I ended up returning them due to quality control issues with the speakers and displays, but when on sale like this I think both are still great machines.
I finally bought the 2022 model when it went on sale recently for $1500 and again returned two of those as well because of numerous quality control issues. Honestly, I've also returned a G15 and M16 for QC issues, which makes that 6 ASUS QC returns in the past 1 1/2 years. Personally, I'm done with them.

I will say that the larger/nicer trackpad and display are fantastic, but, it does get hotter than the 2021 model and it's noticeable. There are tweaks G14 users have been doing for a few years now to help fix that, but at the cost of performance.

I don't feel the stupidly high price of the 2022 G14 is worth the extra cost compared to either FHD or QHD 2021 model on sale unless you absolutely need the differences. I'm glad I got rid of mine and would still recommend the 2021 model to people that need a small laptop for travel and still want to game some. The 2022 G14 needs to be $1300 or less for me to seriously consider it again.
The screen on the 2022 model is supposedly a LOT nicer. I saw the 2022 model at BB and it was, in fact, quite nice. Never saw the 2021 in person though. No webcam is a dealbreaker for some as well. The 2022 model with Ryzen 6800 supports the latest standards (PCIE 4.0, DDR5 memory), although in real life I don't think this will make much difference for most people.
I believe that one of the two slots is upgradeable and the other is soldered. So if you get a 16gb (8x2) model that means you can replace one of ram stick with a 16gb to get you to 24gb. Only DDR4, DDR5 is not supported.

Seems like a solid deal. Think I might grab this over the more expensive 2022 models. Any reason to pay up for the newer model besides the nicer screen and slightly better cpu?

I've had this model for almost a year and it is a beast. My only gripe is the missing webcam. I thought it wasn't going to be an issue but there have been multiple times where I was going to make a Facebook/teams call and then remembered, oh yeah no camera.

I mostly game on it. Bf2042, V Rising, HOTS.

Looks like a solid performer and has some good reviews overall but I am a little disappointed with the placement of the power port but not sure why it bugs me so, lol. I've been contemplating a decent portable gaming laptop because I travel with work all the time and I've been thinking one of these smaller form factors is going to be the smart buy. I made the mistake of getting a 17 inch Asus ROG back when a mobile 960 was still able to perform well and after lugging that boat anchor around for a while I finally stopped carrying it with me because by the time you add a second (work) laptop, ipad pro, and the chargers and accessories it turned into a heavy bag.

Did the speaker quality issues have to do with bass vibration? I have that on my old ROG laptop and I finally just gave up and started carrying USB headphones with it.

I bot this last Xmas.

Windows 10 works pretty seamlessly on it, but I ran into lots of problems with win11 (random freezes and reboots). Had to revert back to Win10.

Other than win11 issue, I have no complaints. Replaced the 8G ram with a 32G. battery life is acceptable to decent, but not spectacular (don't expect M1 level battery life).
power cord placement could be better but not a deal breaker.

What do people think is better, this, the 3070 aorus linked above or the 2022 legion 5 pro https://slickdeals.net/f/15888841-legion-5-pro-2022-16-qhd-ryzen-7-6800h-rtx-3060-16gb-ddr5-512-gb-gen-4-ssd-1-199?src=SiteSearch ?

14" vs 15.6", small and light vs big and heavy.
