Good price for a new one sold by Walmart.com and not bobs fish shack.

Looks like $6 2yr replacement plan. These only last a year maybe a bit more if they are used year round. They always start to mold too regardless how many times you vinegar water it. But I'm in for one. Will use till the cooler fan stops working or the basket sensor fails. Had this happen on one. Sensor on second. Stopped cooling on third.

I would love to know if anyone has had better luck with another type of setup.

Use a 2 gallon zip lock. Once the ice fully freezes, tap it with a mallet or "drop" the bag on the counter top to break the ice up. Tapping softly is the key.

I bought a similar one same style and it lasted me about 9 months before the fan blew out. I used it everyday. Luckily I bought the extended warranty but had to wait till the manufacturer warranty expired. If I would have gone through the manufacturer warranty they were making me pay for shipping to send it out which wouldn't have been worth the price for shipping. I waited 12 months and was refunded through my extended warranty. I suggest purchasing the extended warranty if you plan on buying one. I take a picture of the receipts and save them on a folder on my phone so I can refer to them later on. These ice machines don't last long but at least you'll be covered.

These ice machines also have a metallic taste to it. It doesn't really go away no matter how long you've had it. If your on a budget then this is fine but invest in a better one later on.

Just let it run daily. After about a week or so empty it out in the sink and clean it with a little bit of vinegar diluted in water. Wipe it down then dry with paper towel. Then fill it back up with water and your ready to go. If you have it running daily you shouldn't have to worry too much with mold as it's continuously running.

My wife noticed the taste when it needed cleaning we thought. Idk.

Useful commentary aside, I don't get the deal with sonic ice. maybe better than large cubes, but I think a middle ground is a lot better than accidently getting ice shot into my throat through a straw and having the ice be so small that it fits together so tight that it displaces twice as much of my actual drink.

I have a similar model I fill my freezer with ice, and my main ice maker is failing, it still auger's out what is in the bin, but doesn't reliably make ice... and it would be more expensive to repair/replace the maker there (or probably buy a whole fridge).

These do have a cleaning cycle. You would have to check the manual to see how to run it. Just fill it with half vinegar and half water. I ran the cycle several times and then one rinse cycle.

If you use bottled, filtered, or reverse osmosis water then it stays cleaner much longer. I never saw mold in mine and my similar ice maker just died after more than 5 years. Actually I think a plastic gear wore out and it probably costs a penny to make.

Empty daily and wipe it down on the inside. Leave lid open for any drops to evaporate.

When it breaks, be prepared to pay a good chunk (in my case $20) just to dispose of it according to the law. In most areas you can't just toss this in the trash due to the refrigerant.
