I heard this from an acquaintance - if you are using the same email/phone number in your Saudia reservation as in your social media profiles, and you posted/liked/shared anything that can be perceived as derogatory/insulting/critical of their faith, you might be in trouble with Saudi authorities in their airports. Apparently they can cross reference these things due to advances in technology and cooperation from tech companies. This is a possibility in other countries that share the same faith, but more so in Saudi.

You have no idea what you are talking, Taiwan is part of China for the thousand years, only apart during time of Japan occupation.
Currently, their flagship Airline called China Airlines, people's passport printed with "China" in the first line in Chinese, and second line in English with China. Don't be nut if you don't know...
Yes and no, like most things in human history, not everything is black and white. Humans are a mess.

From an American perspective, the China/Taiwan relationship is a gray area. It's complicated because the US gov talks out of both sides of its mouth in an attempt to maintain good relations with both parties, which is an almost impossible task. For example, the intentionally ambiguous 1972 "One China" policy, which is basically one China in name only as both parties are still treated economically, socially, and militarily as separate countries.

Completely and utterly safe. Perhaps safest city of the size anywhere. Traveling thru Riyadh otoh, is not going to be fun, but interesting if that's your cup of tea.

Unless you NEED to travel to china now, just wait until 2024 and it will be much easier.
Why 2024? Will the bridge to Taiwan be built?

Maybe, but that still won't get you to China

Unless you are extremely unimportant and not related to anyone of any particular significance in business, military or otherwise, I would steer well clear of China for personal or business travel. Expect unwarranted detentions and arrests of Americans to sky rocket in the coming years and decades. https://travel.state.gov/content/...isory.html
Really?
shall I worry about being detained and put into house arrest in Canada for 3 years?

Are you referring to a single individual who was part of a well-known group/company committing industrial espionage? I'd rather take my chances with the Canadian government.

90% of us will have no issues traveling to China. Just remember, it's a foreign country with their own laws, your rights don't matter there and no such things as free speech so don't be stupid and don't do stupid things.
The problem is according to current guidance by the US govt they are wrongfully detaining people and they arbitrarily enforce laws in China. So following their laws in no guarantee. A 10% chance of having issues is way too high.

"Reconsider travel to the People's Republic of China (PRC), including the Special Administrative Regions (SARs) of Hong Kong and Macau due to arbitrary enforcement of local laws.

Exercise increased caution in the PRC due to wrongful detentions

No, but US and China might go to war sometime soon. You'll probably still miss it though if you go now.

I traveled via Saudi airlines in 2018, very good NEW planes and friendly staff, the only downside was the lay over in Jeddah, that airport looked like a public toilet.
New terminal opened. Toilet is closed
