At this level, they all come from the same factories in China or Taiwan, so similar quality but the Canyons are cheaper because they are direct-to-consumer. However, you should know what you are doing if you're going to skip the bike shop.
Don't underestimate the value of a bike shop helping you choose the right bike for the riding you plan to do, getting the correct size, allowing you to test ride many options, building the bike, fine tuning the fit, providing free adjustments in the future, and handling any warranty claims for you.
How you ride and where you ride is the real question. Use the right tool for the job.
Apples and oranges when comparing mountain bikes vs a hybrid bike for mixed terrain with light front suspension. Is your main purpose to ride mountain bike trails? A person who wants to go on mountain bike trails should go for a mountain bike as a hybrid bike like this isn't really designed for that. A person shouldn't get a mountain bike if they really just ride around the town and barely touch gravel roads or dirt packed roads. Only the rider knows where he/she will be riding their bike. Both bikes are good specs for the price and this hybrid is a little bit better bang for the buck but the main question is "Are you looking for a hybrid bike or mountain bike?". If you say mountain bike, the choice is clear... If you say hybrid, the next question is "Are you looking a hybrid bike with thick tires and front suspension for mixed terrain or a hybrid road bike that is for the road and light weight & fast?".
Almost pulled the trigger a few months ago at a higher price and without free shipping. I'm definitely going to pick one up this time but unfortunately I'm right between sizes and struggling to make a decision
Edit: I measured and it's saying large...fingers crossed

Picked one up - 6 for $599.
Canyon website says I'm M frame but LBS recommended L for more comfortable position.
So ordered L but now I am seeing that stand over height is 851mm while my inseam is 840. That would make it difficult to get on/ off the bike and may hurt . So thinking ordering M at the end and cancelling my L order.
Most of the brands suggests size L. But canyon suggests size M. Any experience?
I am a S in Canyon. Was surprised by it since I am a M in any other brand, but check out their measurement suggestions and their tool should definitely be accurate for you.
I'm new to bikes and saw this deal. How much will assembly and tuneup cost?
Call a local bike shop and find out if they'd be willing to assemble it for you. That's the only way to find out. I would guess most will ask $100-150 and you will probably be given a two-week turnaround.
If you're even kind of mechanically knowledgeable assembling the bike is an easy process. They include the tools and have instructions. It would probably take you 2-3 hours. Decide if that time is worth spending instead of paying the money and waiting.

If you bring a new boxed bike to a shop, the typical charge for building and tuning it all up will be $100-$150. Roughly the same cost as their complete tune-up because they will go through everything.
Some shops may have a $50 build special, but I doubt that includes much beyond installing the front wheel, bars, pedals, seat, and airing up the tires.
Not that familiar with Canyon but Grand Canyon 5[canyon.com] looks like a good bang for buck for entry level MTB. Is their quality as good as the big brands e.g. Trek, Giant, Specialized?
